NYC AM 50 VC/Startup, 3 years experience before came to this firm, 128K base + 25K signing bonus (but have to work here 18 months to get all money). Billing requirement is 1,600 but already billed 2,290 by end of last week.

How did you get into corporate? I’m interested, but I only have litigation and IP experience.

Im still in shock that u got a signing bonus as a para? Ive never heard of that & Im in NYC too. Im in Comm Foreclosure Lit & want to move to transactional/corporate

I came with a team. It was very common in 2020-2022 Spring to give signing bonus to paralegals in VC filed. I don’t think law firms do that now since the market is less competitive.

Can you explain VC work a little? I am in immigration - interested in switching fields

Venture capital is just help funds to invest money in startup companies. Most of my clients are startup. For startup part, we handle formation, cap table management, security filings, financing rounds; for VC part, if VC decides to invest money in a startup during a financing round, we do diligence review and form subsidiaries if requested. Lots of details

Recently accepted a great offer from one of those startup-within-a-large-company outfits. The startup farms out the hiring stuff to the larger company. In the new hire paperwork, I noticed it said the comp was based on my being in a Tier 1 CoL city. Prior to accepting I'd mentioned to the startup I was looking to move, and they said it shouldn't be an issue. Will they adjust my comp down if I move to a Tier 2 city? Startup is fully distributed and remote.

I've been working here for about two years now, and I have to say, I love my job. The company culture is great and the people are wonderful to work with. But recently, I've noticed that my manager has been asking me to do more and more work on my own without giving me any additional compensation for my time. He just keeps telling me that if I want to get ahead, then this is what I need to do.

I'm not sure what to do here—do you have any advice?

Hello, I just had to vent a little and maybe ask for your opinion. So I’ve been working at my job for four years now and I’ve never gotten a promotion. On top of this, I do extra duties that my coworkers don’t do and struggle with the work load. I feel like I’m being taken advantage of and am not sure what to do. I feel like going to my boss and refusing to continue to do these extra tasks without extra compensation. Am I being a baby about this?
