It depends on the company, if it’s enterprise or corporate/commercial, the number of customers and type of customers.
I work on commercial accounts with 3 account manager, over 100 account. My coworkers in Enterprise have 6 accounts. I’m leaving so 3 of the have to take my workload in the meantime. They realised that we don’t do the same job
It comes in waves. Manage your calendar well and set your boundaries early. I have more autonomy over my schedule now as an SE than when I was a consulting manager.
Really depends on your tenure and seasonality. It took me ~9 months in my first SE role to really settle in, before becoming confident to delegate, pushback on AEs and force better qualifications from them - from then on, WLB improved a lot. Also, my industry activity used to peak before and after summer, and around Christmas, so WLB would take a hit around these periods.
