Sales managers, what are some of the things you wish you could tell reps but can't? What do you wish you could tell inside reps that want to move into field sales but may not be able to, or what do you wish people would ask you?

That’s tough. If they will never be considered for the field then I wouldn’t string them along with false hope. It’s someone’s professional life. (Not saying that’s the case) But the sooner they know the sooner they can try to build their career elsewhere. And maybe as a manager you can find either someone that is a better fit and will progress - or just wants to do the ISR thing longer term. I’ve known plenty of those folks too.

*what do you wish you could but cant tell inside sales wanting to move into field sales*

I was told by a VP a bit back (but was on the DL) was that past generations were able to grow in their career by staying at the same company for decades and climbing the ladder. These days, it's more like monkey bars. To move up, often times you'll need to swing from place to place to get there. Field sales is a different animal than inside sales. Pre-covid meant constant suit, driving/flying and depending on size of sales org, more time away than with the family. Priorities are different for every individual what are you willing to sacrifice for more money?

I find that single male friends of friends are generally very eager when we first met or were introduced (through events, common friends’ parties). I got invited to their hangout bunch / house parties (pre-covid), but the moment we established i have no romantic interest and only friendships, they disappeared and we become barely acquaintance. I genuinely want to keep them in my life as friends. Why is this the case?
