This might be a silly question - but what can you do with the cord blood?

Freezing cord blood is controversial. Currently, it's most common use is for siblings with blood cancers. But it's not a guarantee that you'll even be able to use it for that. Sometimes the samples are not stored or transported properly and sometimes the sample turns out not to be big enough, which is something you wouldn't know unless you defrosted it. Also, since bone marrow transplants are available from living donors, depending on your ethic background, there may be a quite good chance that your kid would find a match from a relative or on the donor list. In reality, cord blood rarely gets used. I think the biggest pro to doing it probably isn't because of stem cell transplants for blood cancers. Though if I was a minority or had a mixed race child I might feel differently (there are less minority donors in the public matching banks). The biggest reason to do it is because people hope the use of stem cells will expand during the life of your child to things like being to grow organs and tissues. Personally, to me it seemed like a lot of money for the hope that maybe in the future they'll need it for some fabulous treatment that doesn't even exist yet. But, I know people who did it and feel it was worth it even though they've never had to use it.

Wife and kid are going to be out of town for the next 2 weeks. Instead of wasting time, I’d like to do something productive. What would you do if you have say 3+ hours a day. Maybe self help, wealth creation type books, work out daily, take care of some things around the house.

Anyone ever had trouble with a doctor not wanting to certify a family member’s condition, in order to take a leave of absence? How much do you target in your kid’s 529? Given tuition inflation, and the vast cost difference across public and private schools, how do you think about a target number? I currently have ~$60k saved for my 8 year old and I’m wondering if I’m on track.

Our nanny takes my 7 month old out for one, sometimes 2, long walks every day (weather permitting). Love the idea of fresh air every day but its often for several hours at a time and he always returns home crying bc she's pushed him to his limit between feedings. She brushes it off saying hes just fussy which kind of irks me. Im also concerned that he's spending too much time strapped in a stroller. Is it reasonable to ask her to take shorter walks? Am I overreacting?

I am due to take 2 weeks parental leave sometime in the next month and have an offer lined up. Is it better to tell the new place I would prefer to push my start date to take my leave and join two weeks after (accounting for 2 weeks of notice when I get back)? Would that be burning a bridge with current firm (taking leave and giving notice as soon as I am back)? I want to avoid losing 2 weeks of salary during that time if I can.
