Saw a job posting for a new dept in a company I want to work for-I am shallowly acquainted with the owner from 15yrs ago and we have messaged each other 2x on LinkedIn over the years. He is a multi billionaire. I am thinking about reaching out to him to ask about the department with the intent to be considered for hire.

Would you consider it rude or impertinent for someone with that shallow of a connection to you to reach out to talk about working for you? I'm unsure if there are SES issues.

My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?

Manager (VP) mad that I didn’t include her on a call with other Legal VPs earlier this week, despite me not organizing the call. Then Manager gets mad when I ask her to confirm whether I should pass on work to another Legal VP/VP’s team because I should have just sent it over without asking my Manager. Is it just me or is my Manager just being difficult?

I always feel like I set up a mental block/boundary with mine. I get along well with almost everyone but get kinda awkward around my boss.

So… I am working on a project with outside consultants that wraps up this week. I’m feeling some kind of “vibe” with one of the male consultants and I am wondering how to figure out if I am imagining things or whether there is actually something there. He lives is another state and it doesn’t seem likely our paths will cross again.

I have accepted an offer.

My “future boss” will go on maternity leave within 30 days of me joining the new company.

How can I make it easier for myself and worthwhile for my boss to trust me while she is gone?

I'm a recent hire and have extreme anxiety about doing my current job. I'm wondering what my options are. I'm currently seeing a psychiatrist as a follow-up to a brief in patient stay I had before starting this job. However I haven't mentioned anxiety or job problems to her. I will say this I love working with the students . I love getting to know them . I smile to myself when I go to work . I still feel this way after last week being asked my three different people about doing something where I told them that I was not going to do. following day I was then ambushed by admin (where I have never felt more like nothing. Following this encounter with people in charge I had an anxiety attack. This was terrible and I have no trust . TAs are mistreated. Similar story?

Hi y’all! Hope this is the right bowl to post this question and get advice. I am dealing with an employer that preaches our values. The owner states that the values are important to her etc yet my manager violates these values and is involved in unethical behavior frequently. Example 1: My manager has told specialists (resourcers) that she will pay them under the table in order for her (manager) to get full credit vs splitfor the placement and therefore (barely) hit her target for the quarter.

My organization absorbed another and the former deputy PM became a branch head - a demotion. For org was more focused on tech dev and not delivering a product on a sked. New org is very focused on that. He is not a driving leader, but is the only one with the tech knowledge needed. He is retirement eligible. He has no heir apparent - previous org didn’t plan that way. If I move him under someone who is a driver - he retires and I lose the knowledge. If I don’t, we may not meet schedules. Advice?

Yay or nay to 1-year campaign anniversary gifts for clients? I think something small could be fun and thoughtful, but at the same time we work like crazy for them year round....is a gift on top of that overkill?

How do you tackle ignorant managers and favoritism in the team ?

In small companies (especially startups), where HR may not really exist or the HR person may be the main violator, how do you deal with inappropriate behavior. If a person has been there a long time and is "too important to fire" how do you handle them?

At a startup I left because of this, my boss had been there since day 1. He was a nightmare. The last straw was when he took out his anger at a home issue on me and made fun of me for being upset. HR told me they couldn't do anything about him.

These guys at my firm seem to have the same high school mentality and style of jokes.

I felt like a walking zombie during thanksgiving, barely eating and barely talking. My family is small and I told them ahead of time my relationship ended. I focused on my niece and nephews, cried when I wanted to and slept from 8pm-noon for the last 5 days. Showered once or twice. That’s the best I could do and that’s OK right now. I’m back in my apartment, just trying to take it one day at a time, and not re read his texts too much. My birthday is Thursday 🙄

Now within weeks of joining, company says Govt has mandated work from office so all need to report by October..is this true from govt side?.. I have been offered a position at a non-US B4 with a 2 year path to partner. I know one of the partners at the local firm and have the support of the regional service line lead, and am bringing a specialized skill set they are trying to open a new business around.
