Does anybody else feel like they are in a traumatic and very abusive relationship with their firm? My entire work experience at Deloitte is the main trigger of my anxiety and depression. I have been trying to find a good exit opportunity but things keep on falling through the cracks. Covid really screwed up the job prospects that I had lined up, and I dont know to do. How do I handle a situation where a supervisor questions comes off as she sees me as stupid and is belittling me? In the beginning of week, I was scheduled spilt between her client and another, and she felt I was responsible to tell her. We all have access to the schedule. When on this other client, she wanted to do call. I responded I was at a client, and she was upset and believed I should respond her questions concerning her job. I’ve always thought it would really promote access to justice if the general public can easily search through a court’s database for redacted precedents. Most of my cases don't ever even reach litgation. However, I just settled my first case that I truly thought was going to trial. The feeling is odd. A mix between satisfaction and disappointed. We won but it was still odd.

I’ve been in big law for almost three years now and I find it remarkable that we never have conversations about whether our work is unethical, whether our clients have a net negative impact on society, or whether we as individuals-through our work-are leaving the world a worse place than we found it.

I’ve surpassed my billable target by 200 hours already and I am one of the highest billers (firm is transparent with associate hours). Ive been saying no to all new work—currently staffed on 5 active deals. Two of my deals just went pencils down and the other 3 just signed/filed so I’ll have several quiet weeks before mid December. Am I justified in continuing to say no despite likely billing less than 10 hrs a week or should I take on more work to fill my next several weeks?

Trying to fill out my first ever conflicts form and I cannot remember any of my clients at a previous firm. Current firm didn’t need that info when I was hired. Can I ask the old firm’s HR for that info? I’m also worried about confidentiality because I haven’t gotten an official offer yet and I know certain attorneys from my current firm now work at the old firm.
