Weird that a global pandemic, Economic uncertainty, concern about how children will learn, and crazy politics could have an impact on people 🙄

There’s a balance I think. Like 50/50.

This is what I need to hear!!
Screw that. My project has never functioned this well before
More flex definitely. 100% remote / wfh forever does not work. Full stop.
There isn’t a one size fits all - even within a company. I’d say a balance between in-person and wfh. 100% wfh forever is often unrealistic unless you are in a function that is highly structured, routine, individualistic - which generally tend to be more commodified and easily outsourced to the lowest bidder.
I don’t understand why people say either EVERYONE has to WFH or no one does. That’s not flexibility. Being flexible means letting people have the power to chose how they work to help them be the most productive they can be. We have seen that WFH has pros and cons. So does traditional face-to-face. Let people chose.

Companies that can figure this out will have a massive competitive advantage in acquiring talent.
The two projects I’ve done in the 4+ months of lockdown have gone very well - far better than I expected. This was enabled by the clients all being remote as well, but I think we’re going to be able to shift to a much more flexible mode, even when things get back to normal.
It’s also really easy to be productive when you don’t have activities occupying you on the evenings and weekends
I think it depends how project teams along with the client embraced the technology and the remote ways of working. Our team delivered the remaining of the project remotely and went live 4 months earlier. Client loved it and now is considering allowing majority of their workforce to work remotely ( and perhaps reducing office space as well).
After being remote these last 4 months, my productivity has increased and it’s nice spending more time with my dog and SO. Not against flying out to the client every other week though once we have to “return”
What do you think is the idea travel schedule?
I like two on two off so I can alt travel if I want
Convienently forgetting that a lot of people worked from home while taking care of children: so yeah it takes more time. A true WFH setup is wildly different - in NYC we just got the go to reopen daycares, and with schools reopening it will make a massive difference
Remote work during a pandemic/ civil unrest is not the same as working from home during a normal day where the world isn’t on fire and your kid is away at school.
I think people fail to realize different people have different prime operating environments. Just because someone needs the routine of going into the office to be more productive doesn’t mean they’re a terrible employee... they might have distractions at home, or frankly— especially for newer people in the workforce— they don’t have the work ethic to thrive on their own.
People tend to go to the “holier than thou “route talking about “hire good people” & “you shouldn’t need your people to be in person” but those same people generally have no practical experience managing many people who are in different stages of their career/life.
