Mate, I've lived abroad for just over 10 years as well - the tipping system isn't broken in the U.S you ignorant fuck, it is just different. Countries outside the US don't have the insane tipping culture because their wages are typically 3x higher to offset tips, essentially being built into their wages
Oh for fucks sake, laid off of OP. I don't agree with not tipping at all but tipping should reflect level of service beyond doing your basic job (unless you're a waiter and the restaurant lobby is taking advantage of you by allowing restaurants to pay $2 as minimum wage). Why would I tip my uber driver or someone who brought me my to go order? I tip my hair dresser bc I want her to cut my hair well the next time I come and c it's a closer relationship than I have with my waiters or uber drivers. If I had cash I would only tip my uber driver if I told him I was running late somewhere and he went above and beyond getting me there on time
Assenture
Why should you tip when a person does their normal job? Thank about it this logically, people. The whole tipping concept was first introduced to reward those who go ABOVE AND BEYOND their regular duties. Waiting tables gets a tip. But ordering food to-go? Where's the exceptional service there? Uber, where's the exceptional service there? By tipping everyone and anyone, you're only feeding more into the tipping culture and making the low wage situation worse.
Jesus you're retarted and came from a cheap ass family. These people need it to supplement low wage.
It's entirely expense-able. It's not brave to make this point only on the micro level, it makes you look petty and vindictive towards service workers.
EY1, no im not for Trump. But you're a piece of shit as well. Furthermore, I grew up in 4 different countries before the U.S that don't have this insane tipping culture. Just shows that the system is broken here by tipping every single person you interact with
Expand your vision a little. Not everyone travels/not everyone is in consulting where they can expense everything.

Tipping is to appreciate the hardwork and supplement the incomes of low wage and minimum wage people. Those guys work harder than you do but don't get paid as much as you. Stop being such a dick
A1, a bonus is paid for by the company not the client. So that's analogous to the service employees' employer paying them proper salaries rather than their clients (customers) tipping
A5, why don't you read this post in its entirety to understand why your logic is wrong before posting a stupid comment like that
Lol to all the people comparing bonuses to tipping. Tipping is paid by the consumer. Bonuses are paid by the employer. Nobody is saying employers can't pay employees more.
I tip because these people need it, but I hate the overall concept and culture behind it. I shouldn't be paying the main wages for people. I'm paying for the service and the place they work for should be paying their wages. No other countries tip the way we do
OP, it's worse than that. Tipping was introduced post slavery so black people could be paid without having to earn wages.
I get encore awards regularly. Is that considered tipping?
I am totally with OP. Fix the damn wages if you have a problem with them being too low but the level of tipping has gotten out of control. And it has nothing to do with being cheap.
M1, I agree. Tipping is earned. However, the system is so broken where people now expect it with every transaction. I regularly get asked for tips using uber as well as restaurants where you go up to a counter and order food (no service or waiting tables required)
@K2: if you're going to call someone retarted [sic] at least do yourself the decency of spelling it correctly.
Agree with OP. The responsibility of fairly compensating workers should not fall on consumer. Every time. I find it funny how the business owners and corporations are getting away with it. The system is screwed!
