Second time that a consulting firms lies to me during the interviews. I apply within the M&A practice. I am been told that I am going to work on CDD or FDDs, even on Valuations. I accept the offer and when I am in, they staff me on PMO / PMI projects (DDV that I hate). After 6 months, I leave the company... and apply elsewhere in M&A. And get re-staffed again as PMO (without mentioning the previous PMO experience). I am very worried. How can I prevent myself from joining a new team of liars ?

There’s 0 chance I would cross staff someone on CDDs, FDDs, and Valuation work... that should be THE red flag right there!

What are these two firms? Let us know to avoid them.

Just stick around at a firm, build your network, make timely entries and exits to and from projects, and pick the projects you like. M&A firms do all kinds of work and don’t really care about your ambitions. You’re just a resource (sorry about being so direct). Networking is your answer my friend.

like

I am not even given the possibility to decline a project :o But yes I agree 100% this is a networking matter more than anything. I just don’t know how to make sure I am going to do the work I am going to be recruited for. I already lost 3 years Bc of that (3 six months probations) and definitely don’t feel strong enough to handle one more uppercut

Yeah… They all attracted me saying I would do CDD work and then tell me I could also do some FDDs and valuations if I wanted. I appreciated the freedom in getting staffed elsewhere if I wanted. But then it ended up being PMO for months and months 😭 which is miles away from what I expected

like

Do you have experience doing CDDs?

like

OP how did you fare on the first CDD? I’m in DDV and trying to get exposure to it, already have the network lined up, but trying to get ahead of the curve for once I land the gig.

I can’t imagine a firm that would cross staff those types of engagements

I’m from the Account side but I’m looking to switch things up in my career and move over to Project Management. At my current agency the role I have been holding doesn’t seem to have that type of transition opportunity. Due to that lack of flexibility I have been searching for hybrid or remote options. The idea presented itself a few months ago when I was recruited by an agency slightly larger than my own. I made to the top three but was not selected for the position. Any leads advice welcomed!

I am a Product Owner with 4+ YOE. I have been in my current role for 4 months and have continuously found that this role and company are not the right fit for me. Looking back on everything they said during the interview process it turns out that the culture, product and role are not aligning with anything we discussed. They have added on responsibilities and I have continuously expressed to my direct manager how I feel.
