Of course it’s OK. And trust me no one will care.
This question speaks volumes of labor practices at the junior level of this profession. You should take frequent vacations, unapologetically. If you have your hours, take off slow Fridays when you can. Leave early when you can. If you are hesitant or apologetic, people will take the opportunity to be critical.
Also a second year. And also didn’t take a vacay year one. FWIW, I find that taking a long weekend and tacking a day before or after is a lot easier and less disruptive of my billable flow than taking full weeks off.
It allows me to plan for slow times and I can fit in more little breaks during the year, rather than one long one to backstop me from burning out. Just a thought as we roll into third year. I hate my job a little less since implementing the mini break method.
I'm with AA1 - several long weekends are better than a week off all at once for me. I'm a 7th year. It all depends on your personality and how you recharge. I also take advantage of slow periods - working shorter days, skipping out at noon on Friday, etc.
Definitelty take vacation! Ask for the time now to give your team plenty of opportunity to plan ahead, and ensure there is adequate coverage. Don't feel guilty about the timing because it sounds like you've been a dedicated employee and everyone deserves a break.
Take vacations. Every year.
Just plan accordingly with your deadlines/workflow, notify partners/clients who need to know, and set your out of office. If you get grief from anyone, try to avoid working with those people going forward or start exit planning.
Vacations are needed! I think it’s about understanding your practice. I’m in M&A and there are a lot of deals closing right before year end so I won’t take vacation then but generally our first quarter is slower so I always schedule my vacations around that time and take about 10 days. Also letting the partners know well in advanced is also obviously helpful to prevent working during vacation.
do it! The holidays are the best time to do so.
I want to echo everyone else’s comments and also add that this depends on your practice group, but mine is usually totally dead around the holidays, so it’s a great time to take vacation!
Can I ask why it’s slower during the holidays in bankruptcy?
