Secret confession - I don't think I'm actually very good at this job and feel like it's only a matter of time before being found out

lol I’ve said this before many times. Actually I think I suck at times. But in the land of the blind, the man with one eye is king. You still know more about financial matters better than your clients do

How long in the biz?

Are you trying to improve or just staying where you are? You should always be seeking to learn more and be more efficient and most importantly consistently upgrade your value proposition. Your value is why new clients will come to you. If your not doing that then you are right, your clients will find better value elsewhere.

I think we as humans are hard on ourselves. I tell myself that I’m an idiot all the time and do a little putting myself down. I know deep down I’m not. I’m actually very smart. I’m inexperienced and have a lot to learn about the business. I’m only a year in so I know there is a lot to learn but like FP1 said, we know more than our clients and at the end of the day we are [hopefully] putting them in a better spot than when they came to us!

I’m pretty sure the most successful advisors don’t sit around studying Sharpe ratios. They build relationships and let the really smart people do the heavy lifting. My clients trust me as well they should and I trust Edward Jones.

J&J or Google? I’m in final stages and expecting an offer on both ends. TC seems about the same but J&J is based in Skillman, NJ whereas Google is in Austin, TX. Non tech roles in the same domain - Main difference is that J&J seems to be a higher level role (senior manager) whereas Google is a more junior one (lead). Any advice?

What's the most effective way for a small RIA to recruit FAs who have a few years experience, want to break away from large/corporate firms? I'm a $70M fee-only (commissions for insurance) independent RIA with a generous comp schedule that enables FAs to own their own book while they grow. As the owner, my focus is to help FAs succeed; as a firm, our focus is on client service and helping them succeed. I can afford a small salary, but not benefits. I'm especially interested in female FAs.
