His fall from grace is hard to take - J Cole
Hurts me too though. Grew up on Ye and he seems to have moments of clarity but then I see stuff like this and it still hurts. He hasn’t been the same since his mom passed 😢
I agree. It’s a case of The Emperor Has No Clothes. Not a fan per se but as a fellow human it breaks my heart that nobody is leveling with him and giving him the support and tough love he needs to stay on course and be well.
I also completely get why he and other bipolar people go off meds bc they either miss the high of the highs and/or think they can control things with determination and free will alone and/or don’t realize it’s because the meds are working that this is why they feel normal like they can control it themselves. Super sad to see it played out in the public like it is.
And this is also why when you have a friend that tells you that your ass does in fact look fat in those pants you keep that friend forever. Too many people are willing to smooth things over to keep others happy even when it’s destroying them.

I mean there is a lot of nuance to why bipolar people go off meds. Meds don’t just eliminate your highs and lows usually, just make them go to more manageable levels. This can also cause a hypomanic episode where you feel great but then start thinking a little illogically. I know for myself I have had this happen and been like “what’s one day off meds.... I don’t have em on me right now but it will be fine, after all I feel great...” and then chemical withdraw causes it to get much worse than if you were never on meds to begin with for a while. This is just one example but there are a million ways your brain can trick you to go off meds / mess up.
Ye needs help but he needs to realize that as well for anyone to reach him
He’s called his condition his “superpower”. I can imagine the high of the mania and having all that energy for a creative person must be almost an addiction. And I can see why he might not be inclined to regulate it but 1) it’s got to be exhausting long term for him and those around him and 2) it never lasts. This is why if you have this and you have a ton of money like he does you need some really trusted advisors around you. And it’s clear that his wife’s family is either not thinking, not knowledgeable about his illness or plain old doesn’t really care.
I think he could do a lot for mental health advocacy if he were willing and able to regulate so I find the whole situation sad and a little frustrating. Somebody like Kanye showing the day to day struggle of having a mental illness but still being successful would mean a lot
He doesn’t seem to think he has anything to get help for and there’s no amount of loved ones telling him otherwise that will convince him. He needs to be convinced of his own accord. Also, he’s kind of a special case because he is wealthy and famous and people with that much wealth and fame have a really difficult time seeing their own flaws because of how normalized Hollywood has made “that’s just the haters”. It’s the fact that he constantly receives criticism and hate and as a celebrity trained to tune that out, he probably lumps anything he thinks is negative towards him into the stuff he tunes out and part of that stuff is going to be comments made about him needing help for his mental health. He probably feels he’s perfectly sane and those kinds of comments are just haters, and he’s probably receiving reinforcement of that belief from the Kardashians because they have the same level of fame/wealth so they are subject to the same belief. If he weren’t a celebrity, he’d be in an atmosphere where negativity isn’t so normal and so when it does pop up, it’s much more difficult to tune out. I think it’s a symptom of his fame that he’s not sought help for his mental health :/
But I think that if anyone gets him to come around it would be his children. Especially if he starts to notice they are struggling with mental disorders they inherited from him. But they’re all still pretty young and likely won’t start exhibiting symptoms of bipolar disorder until they hit their early teens.
