Seeing many of the salaries posted in this bowl, I am extremely eagered to transition from the federal government. Any ideas and/or tips? I started as a student intern and I have transitioned into a specialist roal. This position requires me to be a jack of all trades and the pay maxes out at 87k. The federal government uses an old metric pay system called the GS scale that requires us to be within grade at minimum 52 weeks. I'm tired of waiting to get what I was promised/owed.

Do people who work for the federal government not receive a pretty good pension? And just so you know, I have zero personal experience with government pensions; however, I have heard that they are annuity based, which is something to think about and consider when making that jump. If you are employed in the private sector, you will be responsible for your own retirement planning in addition to Social Security.

Yes, as VP above said, specialist in what? That will give us a good idea on what you could maybe “max” out on in the normal world. Federal pay is pretty bad I agree but as far as benefits and retirement, it is quite amazing in the long run and adds a big TC (total compensation) factor that can’t be calculated easily like in other tech salaries posted here - it seems to have been well worth it for others. Maybe you could transition into another more specialized role with higher end-game maxes and also hop onto their GS bands?

is fishbowl single handily to blame for inflation? i mean you work for the government, you had to know, right?

I recently accepted a management trainee position in Northern California. Just received a call earlier about someone backing out in Austin, Texas and they wanted to know if I would be interested in training there instead of California. They will adjust the compensation because cost of living is cheaper. How do I negotiate with trying to stay in the range of my compensation I initially agreed to, instead of adjusting to the cost of living in Texas?

I (female) am the top performing recruiter on my team as a Talent Partner (Recruiter). A new team member joined our team in November 2021 as a Senior Talent Partner. Since he has joined, he's only made 1 hire in 5 months. I've made 11 hires. We're set to the same expectations in our work. The only difference between us is his years of experience and a significantly hire salary. How do I approach the conversation with my company on the pay disparity? I feel so undervalued based on all of this.
