Seeking a promotion this year at work. To build my brand, I have taken up/been given a bunch of projects (hopefully to build my visibility). Hitting a point where I think I have too many things...

... on my plate. My partner keeps piling on more. I am getting really stressed out. But worried that saying this to the partner will impact what they think of me and my promotion case. My anxiety is at an all time high. Been sleep deprived and getting headaches. At this point I feel jumping to another company would be less work than seeking promotion. Not sure how to get myself out of this mess.

Stop for a moment to think about why you want to be promoted. All the extra will become part of your way of life. If you can manage that great. If not, ask yourself if you want to be in this place a year from now.

Just tell the partner that you want to do a good job on xyz, but now think that to do that you would need to allocate more time than you have available. To ensure it is successful, you need to give that one up. Suggest person X to take it off your hands. That person is someone you know and trust will do a good job and has agreed to take it on from you.

For an experienced hire with 5 yoe in consulting Would you join a smaller consulting company with higher comp but with clear cut specialization and an accelerated track to promotion to managerial duties or a large company like big 4 or Accenture, lower comp but arguably better job security and more hands on delivery work?

Is the main advantage of applying to mba early simply to literally start making more sooner? Is it easier when you’re younger? I’m fortunately not in a rush to apply and I think next year my app will be stronger, my income is not gonna be much higher post mba, I’ll have another promotion, better recs, and less debt to take on. What am I missing?

Got promoted to senior but did not get a raise to go with it. Firm keeping salaries flat this year due to COVID-19, but I was shocked when I found out promoted staff wouldn’t be getting a raise either. To me, this whole thing rings hollow because the firm has told us multiple times that they were projecting flat growth for the year when compared to last year (which was one of the best in firm history). So it pisses me off that they shot their mouth off about how great year last year was...cont

This is not a recruiter question specifically, but how do you approach your manager about a promotion?

I think the self-promotion to get promoted is a little odd. I've built my case the last 12 months. Watching people scramble to build s case in 2 weeks is laughable.

Was hired into a company at a level that was more junior than my skills (Was out of work due to pandemic for a year). I’ve been at the company 5 months. We’re going through a reorg and my new position will really be leveraging my years of experience more so than other role. Is it appropriate to discuss a raise/adding senior to title? Or should I do the job and then prove myself then talk about raise. I have more experience than the senior members of my team. New leadership than when I was hired

Looking for advice. I’m currently interviewing for a position that pays $20k more than I make now. It seems like the job would not be giving me much for my portfolio and may have some work/life balance issues (but tbh what agency doesn’t). I’ve got piles of student loan debt. I’m only in year 2 of my career. Do I take this job for a year, deal with the downsides, pay off a huge chunk of my debt, then get back to fun stuff? Suggestions on a town that is resonably close to the Boston Airport and still affordable (under $700k for a single family home), also have a kid so schools are eventually going to be important. Suggestions?? Resonably close to the airport to me is an hour or less of car/commuter ride. I am thinking we may have to travel at some scale over the next year and beyond hence the proximity to Bos Logan is important.
