Seeking advice, 3.7 gpa commerce, econ graduating this month. Have been working full time around my 3 class course load as a project accountant but it’s not really my dream job. It’s been solid and the company is great but I had originally wanted to work in consulting or banking. I think eventually I would like to work in PE. Since I come from a small private school what are the chances I get my foot in the door in these industries? Anyone with experience have advice for starting in these jobs?

Should mention I am in Canada. Is it possible to find these jobs up here or do I have to venture abroad?

like

Its def possible to find these jobs! I would keep looking! Best of luck to you.

It's not impossible with an economics degree. Not sure what the market is like in Canada, though. I can only speak to the US side of things.

I can also only speak to the US side of things, which I guess doesn't bode well when it comes to opportunities in Canada. The good news is that the US has plenty of work in banking for someone with an econ degree if you do decide to travel.

Hoping for some guidance. Junior associate here (3rd year). I’ve brought in 3 clients. Nothing major. ~ $500,000 in billings. I have an opportunity to lateral to a practice area I am very passionate about but my clients have active matters and therefore, likely wouldn’t come with me. Would I be stupid to leave my firm? Is half a mill in billings enough to even move the needle? The goal is to make partner. I’m worried that by leaving, I’d be giving up a real shot at partnership. Thank you!

I'm barely a year into my role, but is it okay to leave for a higher position at a different agency and for an account that is more interesting for me? While my current agency is great, the account is very repetitive and prescriptive. However it has allowed me to learn and grow a lot in my role. It's just that the scope of work isn't that interesting and exciting. The new role is more on social and experiential which excites me and seems like a great opportunity. Smaller agency though.

Please help me select my insurance plan. I am married (going to be 24% tax bracket) with a baby so I can choose between low, medium or high deductible medical plans. My wife is anticipating having significant medical expenses for the remainder of the plan year over the max out of pocket (oop).

Taking into account employer HSA contributions, tax savings and the max OOP amounts, is it less expensive to go with the high deductible (calc attached)? Sounds counterintuitive, but maybe I'm incorrect.
