You'll likely need to pay a copay at the time of service and then get the bill for the balance several weeks later. Can't speak to the discount as it likely varies from hospital system to hospital system, but they likely won't offer a discount.

They almost certainly won’t offer a discount on the basis that someone has a HDHP; the only real consideration they give to discounts is demonstrating inability to pay the full bill (they’d rather capture some revenue than none or have to pass it to collections), and even that to your point is hit or miss depending on which provider you are working with

If you are on an HDHP you probably have a deductible that needs to be met and they will Bill you for that after the claim settles

I feel this, had the exact same situation happen to me 😢 You can wait for them to bill you and pay later. Very slim chance they'll give any discount but never hurts to ask (I tried, no luck). Some places let you spread payments out over time, which can help, especially as bills hit the thousands. Also be sure to contribute to your HSA up to your deductable, or at least up to however much you owe, to be sure you get that $$ tax-free. You can add directly to your HSA account, it does not have to go through your employer/payroll. You can add $$ to your HSA up until taxes are due the following year, so no rush if you want to wait and see how the bills shake out. You can also use your personal credit card and then be reimbursed by your HSA account, if you're stuck at any point. Keep in mind you do have a deductible, which yes is really high, but once you hit that, the rest is covered. After I got my head around that initial sticker shock, I didn't skimp on physical therapy, etc., because I'd already maxed out for the year ... so from that perspective, it's "good" that this is happening at the beginning of the calendar year, if that makes sense. Best of luck getting through this!!

One thing to piggy back off this. My husband invested his HSA balance of 2k mid year last year and now how 12k for medical expenses. Something to consider!

They will bill you for the deductible. You have to pay co-pay upfront. Call them and set yourself up on a payment plan. Just tell them that you can only afford to pay 50, 60, 100 or whatever you can every month. They will accept any payment. At some point they will send to collections. When this happens, you can negotiate a lumpsum payment with collections. This does not impact your credit score to my knowledge, double check to be sure.

Working as an audit staff in big 4 shared service centre. It's been 2 years. I really don't like what I do there, also it seems I won't like what I'll be doing there even after becoming senior. Thinking of leaving and joining industry once ACCA qualified. (One more paper left). But people around me discourage that growth potential and earnings in industry are way less compared to public accounting. I know that too but I still want to leave. I'd like to stick to core accounting. Thoughts pls
