So I got 2 wardrobes when I first started: business formal (basically dresses from Macy’s - Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Of Mercer + blazers / cardigans from banana republic) and business casual (banana republic trousers/crops for summer, banana sweaters or long sleeved tees / silk shirts from everlane / long sleeved tees from amour, pointy flats or boots from Rockport / M. Gemi). I have basically never worn the formal one, but good to have it there incase you’re put on a client that dresses smart. For each week, I’ll pack 2X trousers, 1X flats/boots in winter, 1X heels, 5X tops - which gives 1 spare.
Don’t sweat it too much. I get comments on how nice I dress for work and I don’t think I’ve ever spent more than $50 on a single piece in my life. Stick to a capsule wardrobe that is just one or two colors and mix and matches well.
I have a few Marycrafts dresses from Amazon. ~$20 and as long as I don’t go with embellishments they look quite chic and very Black Halo (the ones with buttons, etc. look sort of cheap). I’m not new in my career and they are the best professional dress secret I’ve ever learned - the recc came from a newscaster who wears them on air.
^ agree with SM1. Stick with basics and build out tops/dresses that you can increasingly mix/match/wear alone (if pattern) over time.
Burlington. Lots of Calvin Klein dresses
