It's not common by any means, but possible. You gotta be a REALLY strong performer
I’ve seen people do it really fast from coming in from another consulting firm (usually one of BB). Doesn’t look like that’s what happened here but if you come in as an associate but we’re already an associate for 2 years at BCG, you can probably make EM in 1 year
Know someone from college who did it in 8 too. He was recruited right of school, top of our class.
I don’t want to call him out specifically, but I’ll say it was not a target school (state school)

~2 yrs per level is about right, this person did it in 1.5? That’s aggressive.
They have a faster track now (BA to EM).
Possible, but at what cost [to them personally].. 🤔
Although I’m sure the benefits now do outweigh the sacrifices over the ~6 years.

What is the cost of a human soul to a McKinsey Partner, anyway?
Pro
Definitely faster than average, but not nearly unique. Internally we benchmark progression to partner at ~7 years. So it’s a good progression but every office will have a handful of these.

To be fair, only the "integrative" track at McKinsey has this. Other paths within the company have a much slower promotion schedule
Additionally, it's "up or out". At a Big 4, you can coast with relatively better WLB and focus on other side projects. At McK, you have to consistently be a pretty good performer just to stay employed
I’ve heard from MBB friends/mentors that it seems like to “offer strong incentives” to pick consulting over tech some of the big 3 have “streamlined” the time it takes to hit partner (and in turn incomes that tech wouldn’t beat out easily)? Not sure how true this is though
That’s impressive!

Probably had experience before?
Pro
2 YOE is all!
I have a friend who made it in 5.5 right after university
Not too fast, particularly if they had 2 YOE prior to joining McKinsey. It is taking slightly longer on average recently from what we’ve been hearing.
How much does partner at Mck make?
New partner closer to 750
