Negotiating tips at year-end review for getting an above-average raise? Or do numbers speak for themselves?
Genuine question: What are the most common exit options at Google BizOps? (1) For internal transfer to PM, those teams seem to prefer to hire Google engineers. (2) For internal transfer to Chief of Staff, why those teams don’t promote their own Strategy & Op folks? (3) For BizOps internal promotion, there are not many Director positions. (4) For leaving Google, I don’t know where people usually go… Please share your thoughts / correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks!
Anyone have tips to speed up the timeline to get from senior to manager? Got my first promotion early and hoping to work towards another.
Have you ever run into a situation where you asked for more money (either a raise or when negotiating an offer) and you got it and regretted it? What are the strings attached to more $?
How much does reapplying to a school you didn’t get into better your chances the second year…this being a hail Mary year for me, wanted to know if it shows growth/dedication should a promotion happen for me in the interim (HBS primarily)
How do I tell a fellow colleague, mgr and a friend that he needs to start developing work products and not only just review & provide feedback? Promotion to mgr doesn't mean no work by self at all....
Went from wanting to only focus on my career and not even wanting kids to now wanting to be a SAHM while I raise kids and go back into a more relaxed job. Has anyone else had a crazy shift in thinking like that? Been single this whole time, so no one is influenting this
For those who did get promoted, esp. from Senior to Manager, how did you feel about your chances throughout the promotion year? Any signs at all or you are just in the dark until they tell you?
Congrats to all the folks that got promoted at PwC! And thank you fishbowl - I wouldn’t have known about PwC promotion time without you.
Weird combination of de-facto self-promotion under poor guise of advertising Becker’s products PLUS humble-brag of winning the EWS award. Gotta love it!
I know I posted 3 wks ago about house #4. But a week later I got the inspection report & it was a no go. Lesson learned. But this house I AM buying. I close in about 2 wks. 1st column: The #s w/current tenant till June. We won't renew the lease. Instead we'll rehab the inside; ~$7k, then raise the rent to match the market. Using coulmn #2, total monthly cashflow of all homes is $1,186mo. Initial goal is $20.5K/$1,708 mo. Almost there! If we can rent it for $1.1Kmo (column 3)...AWESOME!
Is it normal for a Partner to tell me “you know this will delay your promotion by 6 months” a day before my STD for mental health reasons? (P.S. He assumed I took the leave for mental health reasons although I never mentioned that to him). He also said “people like you leave and never come back so make sure you talk to your sponsors before making any decision, there are people who are excited to work with you”.. the conversation is on replay in my head
14 months into my first agency job and I’ve been told from my CDs that I’ve been recommended for a raise. What should I ask for? I’m making 58k now and have had a bunch of work produced.
Why is there a push to raise the Federal minimum wage? Why not leave this to each state?
Manager 1. Transfer from audit into FDD (and have to do one more busy season in audit), or leave to a financial reporting job at a large public co for 40% raise?
How much do you value pay vs. experience? Been with the firm for a few years now and severely underpaid, but working on interesting projects and good people. Can probably get a 50% raise if I jump.
Considering leaving hectic agency to an in house creative team at a relatively unknown tech startup. I’ll get a significant raise and a better work environment but still on the fence. Thoughts?
How should I start a conversation with my boss about a promotion? What things should I bring up as evidence that I'm not only consistently hitting - but surpassing - my performance goals and targets?
@Bain folks: I got invited to a 10-min digital interview (HireVue). Any idea/tips on what to expect?
I want to hear about people's exit ops from human capital consulting. Please share companies and position if possible.
How has your WFH experience during the pandemic impacted (or not) your sense of loyalty / willingness to sacrifice for: - your team - your client - your firm
Men’s hair style/ facial hair, and interviewing at Big4 poll: 1. Ok to have longer hair 2. Only medium/short hair is professional 3. Trimmed beard & mustache ok 4. Only mustache ok 5. Long beards ok 6. Clean shaven only 7. Hair style/facial hair have no relevance
I’m looking to establish comp ranges (mostly IT and tech). What are some good options that are up to date, user friendly, and overall good resource? We are primarily remote but do have a small headquarters.
Any tips on negotiating severance package? What’s typical package for a NY lay off? How do we maximize the money we receive? I’ve also read things on the internet that say “don’t sign it on the spot.”
Ladies, I’ve noticed (pre-covid) that when men introduced each other or even when they enter the room they always shake hands with each other - even if they’ve known them/worked with them for months. But for myself, I may get a handshake on first day but never again. And I find it annoying like do you not think of me as your equal or do you think because I’m a woman I want a hug?? Has anyone else noticed this, or am I taking this the wrong way?
When you express an interest in a Credit Fund to a recruiter, will you fall under the PE or HF interview path?
How do I have the conversation with a Partner about writing a letter of rec for a PhD program? Will I put myself a risk of being laid off if I express interest in continuing my education?
I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
Any ideas on how well flatiron health pays? Looking at their manager in product operation and product marketing roles and wasn't sure. Not too much info online and Glassdoor might be old
Is agency culture relatively the same across the country? Are agencies in smaller markets a little more chill (better work life balance, less chaos, etc.)? I'm getting a little burnt out and I'm not sure if it's a NYC thing or an advertising thing.
It’s well known that the difference in work culture in Europe vs US is quite different. Can you comment on some of the differences when it comes to work/life balance, competitiveness, client dynamics
I can’t stand my team/what I am doing, but find myself staying in the role because of the comp. I think my manager is picking up on this...unhappiness affecting performance and engagement. Advice?
Perks of big agency vs small shop?
