I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?
Any word on layoffs at JPM?
Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?

JPMorgan Chase recently introduced a policy change to increase the notice period to 60 days. I'm a 602 and resigned recently and yet my LWD is showing up as 30 days from now. Anyone recently resigned can confirm if they are facing the same or new policy is in effect. This is causing confusion with the next companies I'm interviewing with.

Have heard this a with Deloitte and work visas lately...if you're at that level and they don't see you getting to Partner within 1-2 years, they let you go. That said, in other instances (at that level...) I have heard of them giving people time to find other jobs...
Wow. I heard there were more lay offs coming that were. It performance based this time. From all levels. So I guess this is it
They don't actually do that without a reason...
Sent her an email for a meeting for the next day and he along with HR communicated to her that she was laid off- what sucks is that she was in a work visa and has to find another job ASAP or else she will have to leave the country. Had been with the company for over 10 years and got promoted last year to senior manager.
Probably politics. It doesn't really matter what your subordinates think of you. The only opinions that matter are the partners'.
My guess is that she will probably get some time to transition her projects to other people...the company owes her that
Deloitte is def getting rid of the lifers. That's where all the cuts in Chicago in BTS were at the manager and SM level imo.
In transfer pricing. One of the PPMDs sent her an email the day before. Everyone in the office liked working with her. Unfortunately, we don't have any visibility into her numbers and still have no idea why she was laid off. Definitely not due to financial troubles in the practice as this has been a very good year for us.
Public accounting is about the numbers at some point . How many people are needed at a particular level and who is Accretive to the practice. Despite what you think , Politics is not considered as much as much as you think. If you are a senior manager on a work permit and a manager can do the job you should be concerned . It you own the relationship and bring other into serve the client, then you are fine
Deloitte is "rethinking the role of senior managers" at least for tax and there are plenty of senior managers that are being laid off without performance issues
What location/service line?
Sent her an email that she was fired?
It could've been for many reasons that are kept private such as expense fraud, time theft, etc.
Wow
Oh really?? I heard that some other tax groups have laid off people but I thought it was because they weren't doing well financially. If it is performance based, why not have these lay offs when promotions/raises were decided.
Tax revenues did awesome this year so it's not financial for sure
@Senior Manager 1- how will the role be different?
Getting rid of lifers? Aren't partners lifers? She could not make partner? They would not give her a chance? Likely politics. The email thing is what is most appalling. Like they knew it was the wrong thing to do all around.
She was promoted to senior manager only last year. Don't you have to be a senior manager for several years before making partner? Can you determine after a year as a senior manager that someone is not cut to be a partner?
