Is your senior extremely busy? I get mean when I'm extremely busy. I try to control it but sometimes it just gets away from me and I do it without even realizing. What works for me is when someone calls me out on it. If someone told me I dont appreciate your tone, I know you are busy but I'm doing my best and need help. I would apologize and try harder to be nicer.
EY1, you should really just quit responding now. The hole you're digging yourself has gone from impressive to just sad.
As you like to say, see everything you wrote here as a failure and grow from it.
This is something that myself and several other friends of mine experienced going into the Big 4 out of law school. Senior level accountants (not all, obviously) have this need to show the associates fresh out of law school that âjust because you went to law school doesnât mean anythingâ and that they are âin charge.â
The most impressive thing about lawyers at EY is this uncanny ability to always find a way to mention that theyâre an attorney within a minute of first meeting them. In the unlikely event that your donât remember that theyâre an attorney the next time you talk, it isnât a problem because they will always find an opening to remind you, even if they have to create the opening.
it totally reminds me of this one professor I had in LAW SCHOOL studying to become an attorney, which I now am. it is kind of like being an accountant just a little bit better.
I bet youâre wondering why, as a licensed attorney, I am here on a team that does compliance work in volume - I can assure you itâs not because it was my only option after not landing at a law firm - itâs because I wanted to be closer to the work, get some real hands-on practical experience. Just remember if you run into a a complex legal question, I can explain it to you in laymanâs terms
Never an excuse to be rude
Also a lawyer in the big 4 and the struggle to get support is real. Just bc we are more adult and not kids fresh out of college doesnât mean we donât need help when we donât know something. We will see how it ends for me. Currently on PIP and wondering why I was hired if there is no willingness or ability to get our types up the curve.
Is it stuff you should actually know tho? Are the questions ones you have the resources to answer for yourself but you donât and go straight to the senior?
It is even worse at a regional firm, entry level lawyers are not always treated the best.
And It went wrong and she came asking "Why didn't you ask me 1st?" đ
I agree the higher level person should know about this snarkiness. Youâre probably not the only person theyâre being snarky with and itâs going to make good folks run toward other teams imo.
I have experienced something very similar. In my experience and hearing from others there's definitely a anti attorney attitude from some of the CPAs.
