Some partners are so stupid. In a free market system, if you want the good associate to work for you, you need to be a nice person. Otherwise, I have enough partners to feed me work and you’re the source of your own problem.

Trying to decide who to invite from work. My office is about 45 people total—50-50 attorneys and support staff. I know which associates I’m inviting and know that the others won’t care. I just saw what appeared to be a hot yoga class being taken inside an outdoor dining set up at a local restaurant. They had clear tarps covering the side that would normally be “open air” (ie it was fully enclosed) and additional space heaters running.

Senior up for promo to manager in audit in next year. Have decided I do not want to be an auditor. Which of these paths do you think is best?

1. Stay 1 more year, exit to industry with manager title.
2. Move to advisory internally, but most likely would have to do one more year in audit and move as audit manager to advisory sr
3. Exit immediately into industry to try for accounting manager title / senior accountant or sr fin analyst
4. Exit immediately to advisory senior at another big 4 firm
