I just remember that I don’t to be that person who wigged out. Even if I drop dead, I want to be the person who handled it—even if just in the outside. Also, drugs. Better living through chemistry
I read this great book on classroom management that earlier this year that talked about the importance of pausing during a stressful situation to calm down before responding. It helps your brain switch out of flight or fight mode and allows you to activate higher thinking and problem solving skills. I’m not sure it that answers your question but I found it to be extremely helpful advice.

Fake it till you make it and just reminding myself to be patient and take it slow

Are you asking about a sudden freak out or a long term one?
Practice. 9/11 was hard to be in the classroom as it unfolded. Remembering they are in my protective care. I am parent en locus. I wouldn’t freak out and scare my own children.
