Serious question — what is with one particular culture’s obsession with dogs? It’s one thing to own pets and like them, another thing to treat them as if they are humans or better and venerate them.

Love is a strong word.... unfortunately every NYC yuppie i met who “loves dogs” buys into the Instagram designer dog and spends thousands of dollars supporting god knows what kind of puppy mill instead of rescuing 😒😒 ditto on those sad pet stores

It’s because humans are now so busy all the time that they have no mental downtime to learn to invest in relationships or be good companions in relationships with other humans. If every human is on his/her last thread all the time, who will want yet another argument with a significant other and see value on resolving those conflicts? Instead, it’s easier to have the unconditional love from an animal who won’t fight with you, who can’t talk or have expectations... we want to receive love but giving and receiving of love in human relationships has become difficult. Therefore, no one has the bandwidth to make those investments.

Also, we assign intention behind every human action therefore treat any misgivings as character flaw. We are not quick to forgive because we want them to act as we think they should act. No such expectations from dogs/animals, thus easier to love.

I like dogs better than humans. My dog is my best support system.

like

Again, never said they’re not important - dogs clearly add happiness to many people’s lives and obvious support in cases like moms and others who have talked about ptsd - but my point only was, why have we lost faith in humanity so much that we are willing to say dog rights matter more than human rights? And to be very clear I tend to follow Buddhism and believe that all living (and non living, but let’s not go there) creatures have value which we should understand and respect.... so how come those saying dogs are more important than humans often don’t have any issues with eating other animals?? Are pigs not cute and loving? 🐷

My point is NOT to be racist. You are missing the point. It’s about dog obsession. Not dog loving. Dog obsession. No one seems to be able to differentiate.

No, I don’t watch TV. But I do think my dog does a good job of providing me emotional support from my PTSD.

Just so readers know. OP is referring to white people and presumably is not one due to the hesitation in saying so. Therefore brace yourselves...

Also this doesn’t feel like a serious question and is just inflammatory tbh.

I’m not interested in having children, but I would like a dog one day. What’s wrong with using my disposable income to show affection towards my animal companion?

Who hurt you?

Only a child under the age of 3 and a dog can show unconditional love. All other love is somewhat contaminated 😞

Most animals are better than humans. To quote George Carlin: ‘when was the last time you heard about a rooster coming home and beating his hen??’

like

Who said the hen can’t beat the rooster? It’s 2020

I mean, like in any group (dog lovers, Christians, progressives, unionists) you can't judge everyone by the extremists.

While there are dog lovers who will prioritize dogs to the exclusion of humans, that is definitely not the norm. For most dog owners dogs are just part of the family and share in the love.

And I'm saying this as someone who is scared of dogs, can't go near them. I was attacked as a kid.

I’ll say it. I don’t like dogs.

I said my dogs don’t run my social life but they certainly affect it and that is part of having a dog. If we go somewhere, we have to be conscious of the dogs so we can’t be gone as long or we need to get someone to walk them. And sometimes we take them with us if the place is dog friendly. So yeah they “affect” my social life but the enjoyment they bring more than outweighs any inconvenience. So you’re not a dog person. That is your right. But it really does sound like you are criticizing people who are and that is why people are attacking you.

They love dogs in Japan, even more so than in the States.

I started a new job and while I'm supposed to take over someone else's responsibilities soon, I'm feeling a little frustrated that I have to be dependent on people who are trying to help me get up to speed with everything (which I appreciate a lot), but also feels like it's slowing me down because I have to keep waiting for things, or run things by them all the time (which makes me feel like I'm bugging them). I should just slow down right? I've done things to help myself, made checklists etc
