Because they never traveled the world and honestly don’t know.
Again, it’s because the USD is the CURRENT reserve currency of the world, and has been for decades, and thus provides an artificially inflated standard of living. We can afford more than we should relative to others because our dollar buys more. But like all reserve currencies throughout history, they eventually cease to be. It’s now whether the USD downfall returns to a gold or pseudo gold standard or something new eg. crypto.
I’ve worked in four countries - Three developed (G7) and one developing. My salary in the US is two times higher than what I earned in Canada. My living expenses in high COL in California are merely higher than what I spent in the developing country. My husband and I don’t have kids but we live in a single family house with lot size of 6000 and have three cars, including two BMW.
US is not the greatest country for sure, Canada is more appealing to me, but in terms of Middle class $$$, no country is even comparable.

So ey1 isn’t muddle class and Idt I would call shanghai a developing country

Ok President Xi?
It's not complicated. America is the richest large economy on a per person basis. It beat the Soviets and the Axis powers. Its ideals have inspired (or Americans expressly made post war) the governments of the other countries you are talking about. We have vastly disproportionate shares of the world's invention. People vote with their feet and more than anywhere else want to immigrate here. America is phenomenal.

P3 troops alone no but manufacturing yes. As you may recall we supplied everyone including the Russians.

Because for many Americans, affordable/free healthcare, extended maternity/paternity leave, work-life balance, PTO, mental health, gun safety, mindfulness, and a general sense of connection to community and empathy aren’t metrics they care about.
Two metrics are all that matter to many Americans: money and freedom. But what many people don’t realize, is the collective American desire to accumulate material wealth takes away our freedom and we don’t even realize it. Somebody already mentioned he and his wife both work 80 hours a week. We spend so many hours chasing the brass ring, buying bigger and shinier toys, running on that hamster wheel. We miss out on time with our children. Cultivating friendships. Spending a month or two traveling the world and meeting strangers. We miss out on being present and living more connected to more people outside of our work lives. We stare at screens, eat food, collect hefty paychecks, go to sleep, and repeat. Always chasing the promotion and bigger pay check and bigger house. Maybe we spend a week in August at the summer beach rental, and then a week in February at Turks and Caicos. Post a few pics to Instagram, and call it a year.
It’s a privilege, being an American and being able to do all of these things, of course. Far more comfortable and enjoyable life than the vast majority people in the history of the world. But at the end of one’s life, no amount of money, and no amount of rungs on that ladder can provide the feeling that what you’ve done on this earth is actually meaningful. That can only come from work you’ve done within and from the work you’ve put into others. And that kind of work is simply not a priority in America for many people, for better or worse.
Even if it were, who in America has the time?

The US is a great country for immigrants to make a great living. However it isn't all that great for Americans - economic mobility is pretty low when you compare it with other developed countries and there are a bunch of problems associated with lack of freedom, mass incarceration, violence, racism, etc. Not that countries do not have their share of problems but some of these are particularly rampant in the US
Lack of freedom? How so?

More importantly, why do you people keep asking this same question every week?

People naturally have ethnocentric views but what country of a similar population beats out the US? I say similar population because I like the model of certain Scandinavian countries, however I’m not sure that model would translate well to a larger populace. You should be more specific than “Europe and some parts of Asia” that’s super vague.

D2 I think that’s the point.

Previously America had more upward mobility than the rest of the world.
I grew up without money and now I have money. I did much better than my parents and that is the American dream.
This opportunity is still there but is becoming more challenging to access.
I can’t imagine living like I do in the US in my home country with a second tier engineering degree.
3000 Sqft house, 3 cars, no power cuts or water shortages, don’t have to worry about traffic, my kids breathe cleaner air etc.
The only thing I miss is the authentic food.
PWC3, It’s DTT3’s choice. A 3000 sqft house will allow you to use a separate room to be used as a mini library, mini auto body shop, large family room for games and activities. Three cars can bring three kids, four parents and a young couple to many places in this country. All of these result from hard work and great opportunity from this country.

Key point being that *Americans* think this.

As a woman I feel extremely fortunate to have been born in the USA. In how many other countries could I be a first generation college student, go to a cheap in-state college, make $200k per year and have a husband that splits childcare, cooking and housekeeping?

Which specific countries are better and why?
Because the USD is the *current* reserve currency of the world.
It was before 2016.
