Sorry you are facing this. We’ve all been there. Know what you want to do. Know what kind of roles you are interested in. Be honest. Be realistic about what you need to do to make that happen (training, networking, understanding processes or practice areas, taking on roles you may not like, plus 1s etc). Be explicit about what you need from your counselor. Ask for introductions and network with their network. Take control of your career. No one else will. Or actually other people will and it’s usually not in your favor. Be realistic about whether your appointed counselor is the best one for your career goals. If not then change to one who will support you if possible. I think also resign yourself to the fact that chargeability always trumps interest and strengths. So you may have to take some roles for survival but have a path set ahead about long term career goals. Also talk about the reality of not wanting to get pigeon holed, especially in areas you are not interested in. Good luck.
