I want a job at the goldman sachs
Need 11 likes in order to DM
Does anyone know anything about VillageMD?
What kind of logic is that? Are they the ones keeping track of your finances that they know what's going on with them to decide if you need the severance pay or not? Whether or not you need it is out of the question. They owe it to you. That's that.
Look at the language in your agreement surrounding accepting a new position while receiving a severance.
I agree, best advice here.

They don't know your financial situation or your new job's payroll schedule, so it is not up to them to determine if you need your severance payouts or not. What does the agreement say? It is a binding document. Some companies word it to where the payments and other benefits will discontinue upon new employment and some do not.
It doesn't state anything about new employment terminates the severence plan. They want me to ammend the agreement and sign a new one to void the old one. I didn't know if this is normal for companies to do this to their former laid off employees, much less old HR coworkers. I feel like they are upset I found something so quickly and want to screw me over more or just trying to save some money
You could also call your state's Dept. of Labor. Sometimes they will intervene on your behalf without having to get a lawyer.
Lawyer up buddy
Absolutely ridiculous, they agreed to pay for a timeframe and that's that. It's not your problem at this point, it's theirs.
Spit the company’s name. It will do so much good for their good look now.
They are grasping at straws. You could be doing contract work for a few weeks and then after the contract is over, you have nothing. You could be starting in Q2 2023 but didn’t provide the correct date in LI. Before responding to them, find an employment lawyer to review the language in your severance agreement. In the meantime hide your LI profile 👀
Depends upon the language in the severance agreement.
Yes I would definitely recommend reading the severance agreement.

You should tell them if they want to go back and amend a severance package after it’s already been signed, then you want to go back and amend your offer letter. See how they like them apples. Lol. #petty.
Best of luck in your new adventure
This is not common. Get your severance they promised and laid out in a fully executed agreement. SMH
I'm having trouble understanding in what way would it be "not a good look" for them for providing you what they rightfully owe you. Review the severance plan and make it clear with them that they're still legally bound to give you your pay. They're being ridiculous.

Right - because it's definitely not a "good look" to be trying to rescind someone's severance plan! Even though it sounds like OP did not have a gap between jobs, can you imagine being the person trying to contact them trying to rescind it?!?
Do not sign anything. You take that severance and move on. It is owed to you through a fully executed agreement.
Yeah that’s insane. I would definitely look at the wording in your agreement and look into any state regulations.
I agree w TBSM 1 re they don't know your financial situation or your comp either new firm. How presumptuous of them to assume to know your 'needs'. Check your agreement.
How can they assume that you don't need severance pay anymore? Take what you deserve. Have you read the agreement before you signed it? what does it say for similar situation?
How did they know that you got the job? Through linked in? Linked in is not the official source for your job status . Many people
bloat it to look like they are the head of something when they are just a manager.
Can you change the status back?
You can tell them that you cleared interviews, but, not received the offer .
This seems off to me. I don' think this is allowed. As you said, a severance plan agreement has already been signed. They cannot just unilaterally rescind this.
I would definitely seek legal advisement on this matter.
DO NOT SIGN THE NEW AGREEMENT. Contact a lawyer.
