I think it's funny that all of a sudden people expect taxi cab companies to be ethical. Consider how this industry was run like 5 years ago.

You're right. You don't call them to have a car dispatched to your location to take you somewhere for a flat fee plus distance fare. Their contractors weren't driving yellow cabs six hours before joining uber. It is nothing at all like a taxi company. Not even a little.

Uber def did not brand themselves as local taxi cabs lol. Local taxi cabs dont give you hotel points, dont let you use Wageworks card, dont make deal with credit card to give you 10th ride free and etc. I guess it really depends on how you think of Uber but it surely is one of giant tech startup in bay area with messed up HR and corporate culture.
