Ah, the age old debate has a new look. What's more important, your happiness or your success? Sometimes ppl get to make that choice, im impressed she took happiness (or well being in this case). I wish our "grind till you're dead" culture gave everyone the ability to choose... most of us aren't so privileged so she wins my admiration for her recognition of the choice and picking what works for her. Haters gonna hate
She made the right call. Us wouldn't have even gotten bronze if she'd gone out and botched the floor routine which she most certainly would have.
That said, I don't need to hear about how wonderful and brave she was for doing what she did. She still cracked. That deserves neither shame nor praise.

She doesn’t need to explain herself, but that does not mean people are wrong to question her action. Yes she was under pressure, but so are brain surgeons. So are people working two jobs, fighting cancer and hoping to keep a roof over their heads. She chose to pursue the extra Olympics and then waited the extra year. Could have easily have walked away in 2016. Had she elected to not compete at all, someone else would have made the team as an alternate. The team would have been set up differently for today’s action as well. Not saying they win, but it was incredibly disruptive and not conducive to best performances. And while the abuse she and others faced was a tragic failure by all involved, she had already competed in numerous competitions since the story broke, including nationals, worlds and the prior olympics. I am not angry with her, but like Tiger Woods, people will not look at her the same way again.
No reaches at all. She was obviously struggling before the meet. I can’t speak to the demons she faces, but the moment she elected to board the bus, she was expected to compete. To say that it has no impact to see a teammate walk like that is difficult to believe. Positive or negative, it has an impact. I only hope she gets the help she needs.
I'm torn because I want to support except she sewed a goat on her uniform. It brought the heat, the attention, the endorsements. She's a great gymnast, but being a public figure is a whole different animal and skill... eldrick woods.
Likewise, looking forward to the redemption story.

With the performance given by the ROC girls, even if Simone had been at her best there’s a good chance the USA would still have silver.
Anyone taking pleasure in the demise of a 24 yr old girl should take a long look in the mirror

Wtf is she carrying an entire team anyways. Back in the day every female USA Olympic gymnast was excellent with one or two superior talents. The rest of them need to step their game up. It's like everyone depending on that one guy to do all the work to get the A on the group project when they show up and provide Mediocre input then they have the nerve to get mad when he can't do it because he gets sick or has a family emergency.

I just find it really disappointing that she wasn't able to kill it out there. I don't really understand why she dropped out. I'm not throwing a bunch of hate at her, obviously. But Olympians do carry the hopes and dreams of their nations on their shoulders. That's just what the Olympics are. These people are the strongest people on earth. It's disappointing.
There's also probably some other girl who didn't get the spot on the team who is particularly annoyed. And she probably has to keep her thoughts to herself. I actually feel very bad for whoever that runner up is. What torture and disappointment that must be, to see a spot on a team that could potentially have been yours, be surrendered.

M1, Simone has competed at the highest level for 6 years as the #1 gymnast in the world.
Now she has an issue.
Your competing in college gives you nothing to compare it to.
I came to see how many of y’all are abusive to those (and likely yourself) who decide to set healthy boundaries for themselves to protect their mental well-being.
They’ve been competing regularly for YEARS and the spotlight for the NBA is completely different. Simone goes from little to massive international attention all at once. Also if Brady or LeBron mess up they don’t break their neck
