MBAs are not about what you learn. It's about who you meet.
Degree is not what anyone says worth it or not, it's up to the individual to make or break it.
I don't think it does as much. PPDs in tech usually don't have it. But if you wanna do strategy it's key
MBA is useless. The short term earnings growth aren't worth nearly the real knowledge you could be learning those two years instead
I kinda agree with A2. Think MBA is good if you're changing your career. Doesn't make sense if you're going back to consulting, just for more money. Who you meet can be good to but not worth the money just for that
From everything I've learned so far in business. Who you know typically trumps what you know.
I think there is a level of prestige that comes with top 10 MBA that matters now just now and 5 years later but way down the line
This is not news to anyone.
Let's not oversimplify anything and say "MBA is useless." I'm sure there are thousands of consultants who got a lot of value out of their MBA. It depends on the individual situation. It's not a guaranteed ticket for millions, but it's not a zero add situation either.
I'm just thinking in terms of personal growth. Sure you build a network of likeminded type-As, but you're also spending the better part of two years learning relatively little either educationally or professionally. There are lots of other masters degrees that can help you pivot careers, while expanding your knowledge in a particular area...far more than an MBA
The prestige helps, just like undergrad school does for a few years but it comes down to how you take advantage of the degree and the respect you get before and after. I've met some duds who have a Harvard MBA...
