Does anyone have trouble finding and organizing digital files? I’m launching a productivity tool for files (similar to what Superhuman does for emails) and would love to talk to more potential users! I’d appreciate any and all comments below! Likewise if you are interested in using the tool, sign up at www.trufolder.com.

We totally should!! However, the problem with us Asians is, we’re mad divided. The Koreans think they’re better than the other Asians. The Taiwanese want to be separate from the Chinese. The Chinese have their own cliques and don’t want to get involved because they going back to their homeland in 2 years. The Filipino are never anywhere to be found....etc. you get the picture. It’s super annoying that “Asians” never want to stand together.
More of a hate triangle between China, Korea, and Japan who then spurn everyone else. I haven’t seen it among Asian-Americans who were born here, though.
Even within the black community there is an ideological divide. WEB Du Bois and Booker T Washington had this famous debate with Booker arguing for blacks to focus on education and accepting discrimination for the time being and pull themselves up to stand on equal footing. WEB Du Bois argued for strong political action and founded the NAACP. Most older Asian folk I know fully embrace booker’s ideology, but I think it can only get you 80% of the way there and our parents have gotten us there. The final 20% requires WEB’s way and I feel the younger generation of Asians is waking up and starting to take action to close the gap.

Well said. I’m glad somebody has brought up an important black American history point that is very relevant to the Asian/black conversation and is often ignored.

No one cares about Asians. If a cop has killed an Asian man I doubt any other race in this country would even look twice, and most likely scroll past the article.

Asians don’t have the numbers to protest and also don’t have the will to fight because they have too much to lose. Asians actually can build wealth in America and would rather focus on their careers than risk being arrested fighting the police. Black and brown and even white people are the ones who lost their jobs during covid and have numbers to go out and cause protest chaos. If Asians did it, it would not be big enough news for CNN to cover.
I feel that the racism we face is much more subtle - so can’t really compare to the protests happening rn. But I agree we need to be able to unite and stand up together like other POC groups

Why unite when they never fight for our rights (and actually do the opposite). Why not us first? That’s not too hard an ask or goal. I’m not fighting anyone else’s fight if they are going to suppress and ignore us in the process.
Born and raised in the US, my experiences with racism from white people are often “indirect” but the direct racism that I can remember has often come from African Americans (calling me expletives) so I’m kind of like 🤷🏻♂️

Damn A2, I’m sorry to hear that. That’s absolutely horrid behavior by those people. Your family needs some Roof Koreans. 😢
Yes - racism and violence against Asian Americans is huge, and largely perpetrated by black people. I want all racism to end, and black lives matter, but Asians need to do much better to organize ourselves. Way too little representation in media and politics, and racism against us gets brushed away by liberals.
@A2 maybe the people in the trailer park were a little less desperate? Its hard to know for sure, but I wouldn't blame your dad for harboring negativity against the people that victimized him.

To be real with you, nobody gives a shit about Asian-Americans politically. Remember when COVID started to take off, and Asians were being assaulted and harassed in the streets? An overwhelming number of those perpetrators were black — and I don’t mean that as a way to judge a race as a whole. Everyone is their own individual. However, nobody made a political stink about it, especially Democrats, because it would have to acknowledge that uncomfortable fact. Likewise, when it comes to immigration and affirmative action policies, Democrats actively take stances against or apathetic to Asian communities. Pushes on identity politics and removing test scores (which Asians excel at), hurt Asian applicants. Similarly, when was the last time a Democrat gave a shit about Asians on visas? They only cater towards undocumented immigrants so they can feel like saviors and feel proud of themselves. Republicans... eh. Similarly apathetic at best, and their recent dances with racism and white nationalism are certainly damaging towards Asian Americans, but their pro-business stance does help build Asian communities. I absolutely support the protests over George Floyd’s death, but let’s not disillusion ourselves by thinking we have serious political clout. At best we’re political props for Democrats to play identity politics.

We’re kinda the invisible minority that people still don’t consider American so why would anyone give a shit 😂

I think we can agree that police killing innocent black peoples is wrong. But at the same time, we shouldn’t feel obligated to be a punching bag for both white and black groups who want to define our racial issues and tell us we need to support affirmative action that hurts Asians or tell us we are privileged and don’t face racial attacks in America. We also shouldn’t feel bad telling the black community to stop targeting elderly Asian people. Racism isn’t black and white. Telling black or white people to stop targeting Asians is not racism.
Well said. I’m all for the anti police brutality movement but once the focus broadens to just be “anti-racism” I feel like it becomes a kitchen sink of effect of XX vs YY vs ZZ all against each other.

Yes but it’s kinda not in our nature to be loud about social justice. We aren’t even loud for ourselves.
Yes and we need to stop this mentality. We have as much right to be here as anyone else. Racists and ignorant people can not convince me otherwise. We belong and they need to deal with it
Yes. We all stand together
We should definitely not change it to Asian Lives Matter. But we should make sure to stand up for our community. Our peace is not weakness, and we’re not the punching bag for all groups
Yes we should be standing in solidarity with other minorities - or else it’ll always be divide and conquer used against us
McK1 there’s always been tension but on balance advocacy for things like the civil rights act is critical for all minorities and it’s better to aggregate political power than disperse it
If what you all say is true that makes us the most vulnerable. This apathy will keep us a target. Any ideas that would help bring us together? Saw the APARise, which is promising but still so small.

Honestly I dont think it’s all bad. People don’t care about us so we may be able to just live our lives out of sight out of mind. We don’t have as much negative connotations like blacks, so we may actually be less of a target.(pre covid of course) but yes I do agree the Asians in this country need to be more united and open to one another. We need to forget all this Korean, Chinese, Japanese, crap and accept each other as Asian Americans.
fuck yes #yellowperilsupportsblackpower

I would say we should be as loud and proud as black folks. We’re so timid.
I don’t think we are timid. It’s just humility and the “keeping our heads low and keep on pushing for something greater” mentality that I s embedded in asian cultures overall. But trust me lol, I speak my mind on racism or when insensitive jokes are thrown at me. And I think part of the reason why there was silence with the unfair treatment with our older asian generations is due to language. When you’re not fluent in English, it’s really hard to speak up and talk back. When you are unable to be fluent in the language, how do you expect ppl to want to hear what you have to say, consider your words as meaningful and important, etc. and hence with a lot of the old gens I know, they kept their sufferings hidden, remained silent, and continue working to provide the next gen a better future. The later generations, us, are able to strive for better lives bc we grew on the sweaty backs of the old gen’s hard labor. I’m one of them, and my parents are blue collar. Even though the silence in the past has now resulted in a different type of racism that Asians face, the young gen should be able to speak up. I can’t change the country, but I can make damn sure that everyone who I am in contact with know that I do not stand any form of racism or insensitive jokes.
Also immigrant Asians come from such different countries. Even Northeast Asia countries are so close yet so different, and we have on-going political issues in those regions that make it difficult for us to unite :( .. Whereas African Americans were (unfortunately) stripped of their cultural background when they were literally abducted to the US, and they formed a unified American African cultural identity. I feel like the most viable / realistic way for us to gain rights in this country is continue to work hard and move up the social ladder as much as possible and initiate change from the top
I think Asian Americans also need to become more vocal about injustice and take action when we see racism. Can’t just put your head down, work hard and expect to make progress. That shit don’t work in America’s culture to institute real changes
Thanks for teach us this bit of history. Will need to look into this. NAACP was founded in 1909. What will we do differently to affect change if even black people who had an earlier start haven’t yet succeeded? Or is this a losing cause? If losing, why are we investing our lives and those of our families here when we can all likely be successful in Asia/elsewhere?
