Hi guys,
I am currently on notice period and my LWD is Sep 2, 2022. Today, I got an offer from state street mentioning my joining date as Sep 12, 2022 even though I already told HR that I would like to join from Sep 5 itself. Should they? Yes, within reason. But obligated to? No.
Good managers care about the entire employee. Her career, health, personal interests, family life, and emotional well being. By caring for all needs of the employee they will have the most productive and loyal employee.
Obligated to? No. But empathetic leaders/those that respect their employees are more likely to be effective leaders. It’s the difference between being just a boss vs being a leader.

What do you mean by “emotionally supportive”? Shoulder to cry on? Then no- that’s what friends and family are for. Empathize to your situation and provide some flexibility at work? Yes, as much as the work/ organization will allow.
Maybe a better question is “Can managers successfully lead teams if they aren’t supportive to their employees?”
Don’t believe they are “obligated” to ...
To a degree. Have empathy and understanding, and know when to ask how their team or it’s members are doing. I think the best bosses care about their employees as humans instead of simply treating them as workers or subordinates.
