Should CDs always work with a partner? I never had a partner at CD level but was running a team of juniors - but my current agency’s leadership (and CDs I manage) have the expectation of partner teams. That was ACD level in my experience, but curious what other’s experience is/was, and what the norm actually is.

They want pairs in order to make CDs churn out concepts every now and then. If you’re concepting with a partner and having it approved by a GCD/ECD, are you truly a CD, or are you really a “Senior ACD”? The title CD is thrown around very loosely nowadays.

Never had a partner as CD.

After a few years without a partner, it's refreshing to go back to partner life. No partner was a good learning experience, but it feel faster and more agile not having to always cover every detail. While a bad partner makes CDing really difficult, a great partner can help even out your blind spots and weak points.

Copy CD here with an Art CD partner. We don't concept. Our account has too many streams for one person so we split leadership up. I run a bunch, she runs a bunch. She gives my streams a once over with her art eye, I peep her streams from a copy POV.

Gives us both a chance to run things while also having a more skilled craftsperson weigh in on their specialty.

I’ve had a CD partner and been a solo CD. I prefer a partner. We just manage more projects than I did when it was just me and we can focus on our strengths instead of trying to do everything at once. We do occasionally get tapped as a team for a really big project, but that’s maybe once a year. I don’t mind proving I can still do the work now and then. Otherwise we are in a strictly managerial role.

I have a partner. I prefer it because we can take on more projects and split the work.

I don't have a partner right now, but wish I did.

🎻 🎻

Had partners for almost my entire career… and the one year I didn’t have one it was not fun. Two heads are better than one.

I also have a partner, and every agency I’ve worked at it’s been common for CDs to be teams.

I have a partner but I think I’d prefer being solo. Just way faster when it comes to making decisions instead of having more meetings with my partner about meetings.

I’ve actually never had a creative partner per-say but I am noticing that a LOT of job postings are looking for creative pairs up to ACD and some CD levels.

I have not had a partner in a few years, even at ACD level. I have been at smaller shops or in house though, overseeing teams of 6-8.

Nowadays CDs are truly senior teams.

Def seems that way! You’re not really directing anything if you’re concepting with a partner and a GCD/ECD is reviewing and deciding.

Always been a solo CD / GCD

I have a CD partner, but we hardly ever work together. It's like these small little tiny agencies set up amongst the agency, to churn out more work. I wish for no one to ever get in this position. One can only reminisce at the old days. But such is the brutal life in South Asian agencies.

Never had a partner — couldn’t imagine it otherwise for me personally. Have a friend who Is a CD at a bigger agency in my city though and has a ACD partner and is in a more traditional copy vs. design setup.

I’m solo. But 100% wish I had a partner. I miss the extra POV and we could divide and conquer on responsibilities.

Hi Fishes!!
I’ve offer of 21 LPA from Barclays and my joining is in 3 weeks. I’ve 5.6 years of experience in Abinitio and current CTC is 14.5 LPA.
Is this the maximum Barclays can provide for my skillset?
In HR discussion, they mentioned that I should not come with any counter offer, but I’m feeling that I’ve not done good in HR discussion.
Keeping in mind that I still have 3 weeks and Barclays is my preferred organisation, please suggest what to do. Is this best offer or should I renegotiate?
