If you’re without any symptoms, I think it may be fine for you to go home. This is based on my convos with some doctor friends whom I had consulted for advice on a similar situation. If you do decide to travel, do so by car and not by airplane as the risk is higher via airports/airplanes. When refilling at gas stations, use gloves and keep a chlorine wipe to clean your payment card etc.

like

This advice is so wrong.. OP needs to stay home.

like

At this point, there is an overwhelming number of people telling you to not go home. Giving you a ton of reasons why (some being to stop the spread to other people, but most common reason is to NOT endanger your parents by potentially bringing them the virus since that’s your main concern with staying where you are). I get it that there’s a couple people saying you can, but if you follow that advice? Then you’re just looking for some sort of (even if minority) support for the decision you want to make. It’s your life, and you’re going to do whatever you want. But you need to acknowledge to yourself that you’re either following or ignoring the advice of the majority here (and wherever else you’re losing this question). If you’re so set on what you want to do (you clearly really want to go home and are making every possible argument to do so), then don’t ask the question in the first place. But also know, whatever happens is all on you.

No way. I wanted to too but there’s no way I’d risk bringing it home to my parents.

like

Wait I just saw you said 43 hours. At that point I’d quarantine and wear a hazmat suit and fly

What part of “stay home” do you not understand?

likefunny

Your parents won’t be able to come to you if you get sick. If you’re critically ill, you will be in a hospital and there are no visits. I don’t think that should be a factor here (thankfully, as we all want our parents safe).

This is literally how it spreads! Someone sneezes. Droplets drift like dandelion spores and land on a rail. Your luggage touches the rail. Your luggage touches your shoe during the security check. You fly to your destination, your shoe touches the interior of the cab. Now you’ve infected everyone who rides that cab. You get to your parents’ house, you track it in. You carefully remove your mask and gloves, thinking you prevented the spread.

like

No, your parents shouldn’t want any new exposure in their home. You’d be bringing germs from your city, two airports, a plane, and whatever method of transportation to and from both airports. If you’ve been in contact with anyone, that’s even worse.

like

I came home 2 weeks ago from a metro with almost 0 confirmed cases at the time. If you’re coming from a hot spot like nyc, I think it’s too late to do safely and in good conscious..

like

If you get CoVID, your parents can’t help you, and vice versa. This is unnecessary travel, and it’s a risk to everyone. Stay home.

like

Why are you thinking in the worst case scenario that you'll die? Are you in a high risk group? Sounds like you're properly social distancing...

like

I’m a little confused about everyone jumping on this person for wanting to travel home in these times (which I personally understand) but not for keeping N95 masks that they clearly don’t need. Give the PPE to somewhere in need! You may actually save a life

like

OP has one N95 mask. Let’s not get carried away.

My mom is demanding I stay with her (NYC -> MA) but I refuse to avoid risk of transmission.

like

Stay home and don’t risk it. You could be sick/asymptomatic and bring it to your parents... or pick it up easily on the way to them. Not worth it right now. Stay home, social distance and stay healthy!

like

Don’t let fear rule you. You will most likely be just fine. Just call or FaceTime parents and friends more to help ease anxiety and check on each other

like

no youre overthinking it. stay home

like

NOOO

The risk would be low but the question is how critical is it. Would you forgive yourself in the very small chance you took the virus home to the rents?

like

I would go home, self quarantine, and then donate the rest of your N95 masks to a hospital, nursing home or retirement community. Depends on where you live though - wouldn’t if you were coming from a hot spot like New York, and preferably you would drive.

like

Not in a hot spot, but worried my place could be that way soon. Probably should have gone before there were cases, but can’t change the past.

I drove 700 miles home a week ago. Took me 12 hours. We did some social distancing (not sharing cups, forks, knives etc.) and to be honest we’re almost calling it off by now. I think it was a good decision. My mom was calling me 5 to 6 times a day. If you can drive do it, but please don’t fly.

like

No. But if you really want to.. you should self isolate (after you land) for two weeks. Also why do you have those masks? you don’t need them. Nurses do.
