I planned to go to law school during college, but then got caught up in tech (startups,VC, etc). My dad is an attorney and figured I would go to law school if I didn’t like consulting. While in consulting I’ve been exposed to the VC side of things and have been adamant about breaking in. I make it to final round interviews often, but it’s really all I can think about. I figured law would be a good hedge where I can work on startups and be a better adviser to them. I wanted to try to make something for myself by breaking into VC.
My dad is a PI attorney and does well. If I were to take it over I would do quite well myself. I just don’t know if it’s worth it to forego my burgeoning tech interests for what’s known as a dull job.
All I want is to make a nice wage, have an interest in work, and make my own schedule after some years. Is that too much to ask for?????
Law has always been a backup because I’ve never been completely interested. I just feel like if I don’t go I’ll regret it forever. I’m not certain I want to be a lawyer, I just really don’t want to be a consultant
Hmmm OP it’s totally up to you and you know what being a lawyer is like due to your dad. However, I personally wouldn’t go to law school and spend three years, then have to pass the bar, maintain my bar membership, work my ass off as an Associate, etc. for what would be a back up career. That’s a lot of time, effort, school, and money for something you don’t seem super patient about. However, there’s plenty you can do with a law degree even if you don’t practice. Also depends if you’d work and do school part time or go full time, etc. Maybe look outside of consulting and see what you find and if you like it, then see if you’re still thinking law school. I’m rambling now. Anyway, good luck OP!
Why do you want to go to law school?
Currently work at a law firm OP after moving on from big D. You need to tell us more and maybe we can help you.
Hi. What do you do for the law firm?
