Stop disappointing yourself and do what exactly? Just give up? I don’t understand why people—on here especially—think big law is the end all be all to wealth, happiness, and a successful career. And this is coming from someone in big law. There are successful people everywhere. Find something you’re passionate about (I assume it’s tax) and run with it. Maybe open your own firm? Maybe join a start up? Maybe start your own tax cult? What I’m trying to say is, make something positive out of the situation…

Given your background (I have a similar one), my 2 cents is that you need to build your network. You will have more success going through colleagues who know you, are familiar with your articles and speaking engagements, etc. rather than trying to apply to a position online.

I mean just stop wasting my time on trying to break into a law firm and continue focusing on my career in PA - I didn't mean give up on life and tax 😂

I think a big red flag is that you’re a tax senior and you graduated 10 years ago… shouldn’t you be a director or so by now?

OP, I am a woman with kids and had the exact same question. It wasn’t clear why you’d still be a senior at this point, and it’s a very reasonable question. I would not assume you took time off to raise children. I imagine it is doubly difficult to be around a 2011 trying to lateral to BigLaw with only a few years’ experience.

My vote is stop trying to break into big, medium, or small law. I can’t really see a firm taking a chance on you if you have no post-graduation legal experience and graduated several years ago. You could always teach yourself and hang your own shingle tho. Maybe there’s a solo practitioner in your area who could really use the help and doesn’t mind teaching you.

what is your purpose

Tax controversy I think

Grant Thornton Tax manager or KPMG Specialist 2? I got a few offers recently, and now have to make a decision between Grant Thornton Tax manager or KPMG Specialist 2. GT has higher salary and position, while KP's people are really nice and professional during the interview, besides it's hard for me to say no to a Big 4 opportunity. GT is focusing on enterprise and high net worth taxes, while KP is focusing on energy mining industry tax and tax provisions. Hard to make decision!

I only plan on staying in consulting for about 2 more years then off for an MBA. Would it be more worth it to take a level and pay raise at a different big4 moving to senior level rather than going to associate/analyst level at MBB? These are my two choices at the moment. I want to position myself best for post MBA jobs in industry. Salary will def be lower at MBB compared to the senior level at big4 so not sure if it’s worth the trade off in experience.
