Should I leave my comfortable 6 hrs/day life and nice teammates where we hold hands and sing kumbaya, get paid astronomically but never get anything done and not learn anything life
to 10+ hrs/day, potentially extreme competitive team and do a shitton of interesting things with potential learning growth that double from any other jobs from the same amount to time and have an extremely nice but demanding manager with a 25% pay cut?
🤔🤔🤔
No. Learn outside of work.
Can I join your current team to hold hands and sing kumbaya

Can I join too?
No.

You don't need work to be some great learning experience. Enjoy the low stress, high pay, and use that to find enjoyment, value, and learning opportunities all outside of work

Sometimes, you can’t learn on paper on how to create and scale close to billion user environment.

fwiw, if I got fired from first job, my brain will probably be mushy and not even able to get another job with a similar pay scale. May need to take 50% cut from that skill set.
Upside of potential earning for 2nd one is great, and I trust the HM with my career coz I knew her in the past.
Yet. I’m too old for these….

If you’re willing to go from 6 hrs to 10 hrs a day- can you stay where you are and allocate 4 hrs a day to continuing education or certifications instead? Then when the time comes perhaps the 25% pay cut could be reduced?

There are skills and experience that no certification or education can cover, not at a mid career (10-20yoe) level.
Even with a education like Master or PhD in CS, you can’t say that you actually manage and built a system that spans across 20+ technology stack that sustain and scale for hundreds of millions of users that people use day to day.

I’d you have a great team, great pay, and easy job - why the fuck would you leave? Sounds like you hit the jackpot. If you really feel like the lack of growth is impacting you, devote extra time each day to learning new skills, take on additional responsibility at work, volunteer at a nonprofit, or just enjoy your current situation. I wouldn’t leave your current situation
Why would you transition to a more demanding job for a 25% pay cut?
Absolutely not.

Another one is job satisfaction. Thinking in term of am I doing something with my life?
