Should I take a pay cut for a job I am excited about? If I stay in consulting I’ll be in a post mba role (~160k+20k bonus) starting next fall vs new job which would be ~120k all in. New job would be great for networking and I’d learn a lot but I’m thrown off by comp drop. I’m 25 with no major expenses so know I can make this work but dont think my male friends (and many female friends) would feel comfortable with the comp change.

I did at 27. Best thing I ever did. Loved the job I took so much more and over time have recovered the initial $$ losses as far happier and more successful. Also why are you concerned what your friends think about your comp?!

Oh sorry I misunderstood the last sentence of your original post then! Not sure also the connection to gender roles unless there is a potential issue with underpayment in comparison to males for the same job/exp at the new company?

No! 40k drop is significant and will take you 5+ years to make up. Read about managing $ and building wealth, don’t play with your earnings. After you gain work experience for 10-15 years then maybe you can take a pay cut in exchange for wlb, but no need to at this point. Get that $, invest it wisely, build a strong financial foundation

Is $120k the max they’re willing to do? What’s the exit for the new job? What would be your next steps after that job vs your consulting job? Do the prospects for the new job seem more in line with what you want to do longer term? I am in a similar situation. I’m working at a job that’s pretty cool at $120k but have an offer at T2 strat for $160 + $30k bonus. I’m not 25 and need this cash infusion after not working for almost 5 mos. I have been able to gracefully leave roles favorably. I’m thinking this situation will be the same and I could return if necessary. I think you can do a short exercise where you plot your potential moves after néw job to determine if it could be worth it. Good luck!

I took a pay cut 2 years ago, got some great experience, learned a bunch and now just accepted a new job with 35% increase. Take the job that sounds interesting!

I think go for the one in next fall with 160k +20k if it's a sure thing and they won't back out from the offer.ay be have it in writing. You can always learn new things at any job if you manage your career path. You are 25 and willing to adjust .. it's the perfect time to make more money and save for future. It's 60k more than the new job .. that's a lot. And then your next job after 180k will be more money and you are all set financially. Don't worry about others for comp change and all, at the end of the day what makes your personal life easier .. that's what counts. Good Luck

I debated taking a 20% pay cut and held out and ended up getting a much higher paying job within six months. After I realized what I wanted to do, I did a bunch of homework and found companies that would compensate me.

Someone in my group just jumped from Accenture as a senior analyst to Deloitte as a SC. I’m currently a C at Accenture but really tempted to make the jump and reach for SC or M. I know I’ll get paid more and do the same shit. Currently at 120k and I spoke to a SC at Deloitte that has the same position and they make 160k. I like the people here and the culture here though. But at the same time I want my next move to be out of consulting. Still worth it to make the move?

Now that the CDC says no masks needed indoors if vaccinated, is anybody concerned what that means for kids under 12? I’m assuming that the honor system isn’t entirely going to work (I.e., some unvaccinated people will go maskless). I don’t want my 5 and 7 year olds around unvaccinated unmasked strangers, but it’s also a bummer to stop taking them places. Not that I was taking them that many places, but the occasional grocery store, shoe store, etc. seems riskier now.

60M people need to be vaccinated. Offering them $1000 each would cost this country $60B. Realistically, you can get to half of that population — $30B. One booster shot for 250M people at 80% uptake — $200B. For $30B - $230B, we can end the pandemic in the USA. Worth it? Edited: add in $5M for an MBB to do this math and put it in a PPT for you. And $50M for a big 4 firm to implement, botch, reimplement.
