How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.
Hey all - had a call with a recruiter for a Professional Services - Engagement Delivery Director at Salesforce . I was surprised to find out that this was actually an individual contributor role, instead of leadership (I currently lead about 100 people and enjoy leadership). The job seems interesting but the recruiter was a bit vague on things like TC, growth potential etc. Does anyone have any insight on this role, TC expectations and if this has strong long term opportunity at Salesforce?
Spoke with a BCG recruiter about a Project Leader role in the FI practice. Currently a Tech Consulting SM5 at EY about ~2 years from PP. Is it an opp worth considering? Wondering if the prestige of BCG is worth a possible step down in role/title. I looked up comp on Glassdoor and it seems low (~150k avg) although upper end can reach mid-400’s? How do those of you working as independent contractors land projects? I've just gone through agencies so far, doing my best to weed out the sketchy/stingy ones. I know of some of the big consulting firm talent boards for contractors, but haven't had any luck with those so far. There aren't a ton of projects on those.
usebraintrust.com seems like an interesting model in cutting out the middleman. Unfortunatey, I didn't do good enough on the interview.
I would get my masters and then let my company pay for all my exams lol. I’m sure peoples mileage will vary, but I got into cyber sec with nothing more than a BS in CS. I now make $170k base 5 years outta college. I never understood why people go for masters and worry about certs in this field. I’m just now about to complete my first cyber sec cert from SANS/GIAC. I CERTAINLY would not be paying out of my own pocket for that
Before 100%. Certs, like degrees, don’t really prove you can do something. Just that you’ve read about it in depth. Industry can’t control what’s taught in school curriculum. However, they can definitely pick and choose certs they want candidates to have based on what info is covered. There’s a reason certain certifications are industry standard, they provide some proof that you understand baseline concepts in the industry. If you had the option to finish your degree and have a industry standard cert on the resume, why wouldn’t you complete it before graduation? Make yourself as good of a candidate as you possibly can. In this economy, you wanna make sure you stand out. Good luck!!
