Should I tell HR / My manager that I have PTSD? Sometimes I need to work from home / not see people and I’m worried I look like someone who hates coming into the office... flashbacks = hell.

Yes tell them. It's important you take care of you and you feel accepted

Also type ADA accommodation and learn if your disability is covered. If so any workplace is obligated to offer you reasonable accommodation. Hope that helps

Notify IBM Health Services. They can assist in navigating LTD and STD, as well as working conditions. And they should be able to provide guidance on how to communicate this to your manager.

Whatever you do, just keep mind that HR isn’t there to help employees as much as it exists to protect the employer (company)

Yes! I have PTSD too and I haven’t shared but I know we are legally protected when we do share. Also, detail here-I was just put on Ritalin for PTSD last week-apparently it’s a new treatment. You may want to ask your doc. Hope you’re doing well. Trauma is a lifelong battle that very few understand.

I don't work at IBM but you can also go to HR. They might ask you for proof for legal reasons so if you have a note from the doctor even better. I have a condition too and I feel you. It's tough to tell your work but it's so important for you. Your health mental and physical should come first. Good luck for everything

Wow! CD1 thank you... I had no idea Ritalin was a treatment. I heard MDMA was one they were moving towards. 💜💜💜💜 much love, trauma is definitely an uphill battle.

Amazing! Thank you IBM1. That helps SO much... I had no idea where to even begin.

I was diagnosed with PTSD years ago and while I wasn't in a corporate job at the time (was working as a waitress), I wish I had given my employer a heads up. When the world would collapse in on me, because sometimes it just does with PTSD, noone knew what was happening or how to support me. A simple conversation can do a lot in the way of creating understanding and empathy. And if they don't support you, there are places that will.

I have a chronic illness and have to work from home more than average too. Not at IBM, but I brought it up with my CD when I started working there. (new environments make my symptoms worse, so I knew he'd want to know right away.) He was the one that went to HR, but it was a really good discussion because he learned a lot, and so did I. It helped us work together better. I think I freaked him out at first, but there was never a black mark on me for any of it. I hope that helps!

No additional advice. I just wanted to let you know I have PTSD and anxiety attacks. Best of luck to you.

Thank you ACD1 💜 It’s been really tough trying to pretend nothings wrong. I’m worried people are starting to question why I prefer working from home.

Would any recommend just HR? Or should I tell my manager personally? So afraid to say anything.

Be cautious, they will question why you did not disclose your disability on the disability questionnaire when you were hired. They can use you failure to disclose against you.

Ask your therapist about emdr. It helped me out a lot. Also, when you talk to hr about it, ask if you can have access to the wellness room (if one exists). Usually they’re reserved for mothers who need to pump, but I think working through a flashback would/should be a good use for them also.

@Client Lead 1, should be a nonissue unless you're filing for disability benefits

I am on week 9 of wfh. Since then I have worked from my carpet floor and now I’ve been working from my bed (due to my butt and back hurting). As a result, I am looking to buy a desk and ergonomic chair since we aren’t going back to the office for a while. Could y’all please drop amazon specific links to affordable desks and chairs? No more than $175 for each. Having trouble finding any decent ones that fit this criteria

Hi everyone! Has anyone else’s number of “team meetings” with leadership increased (i.e.: 1x a week to 3x a week via zoom)? If so, do you feel the need to still have multiple meetings per week just to “connect/check in”? How are you keeping them meaningful and intentional? Are team members engaged? When this WFH first started, I feel it made a lot more sense. But now people are rocking and rolling. I’d love to hear about others’ team meeting experiences these days! Be well.

When do you guys think I should let my boss know I’m moving?
