Should I tell my recruiter and team that I’m pregnant before getting the offer? Everything seems to be going really well and I really want this role/will likely get it, but I don’t want to put my new team in a bad spot once I start.

I’d wait until you have the offer, then discuss maternity benefits and when you qualify (use it to negotiate) before you accept

like

They legally can’t ask about your age, family situation, etc. etc. - it’s protected. I wouldn’t feel guilty about not offering up this information proactively.

like

I would wait and tell them post offer, don’t give them an opportunity to have any bias based on the status of your womb. Understand what the leave policy is at their org and if you are ineligible for their leave due to tenure then negotiate to take time off up front! Also my please remember to also negotiate salary/sign on as well as your leave, it is not too much.

like

Thank you for saying this

I’d tell them after they give you the offer. How far are you along?

like

I decided to tell the hiring manager once I made it to the final interview (a few weeks before I went into labor!) A lot of people told me to wait until I had an offer but I was too close to birth time and I felt I had a great rapport with the hiring manager. I felt better telling him. Didn’t end up getting the job with his team though 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ll never know if that was why.

like

No I would wait

You may want to be more focused on whether you’d even qualify for maternity benefits without having worked there for a year..you can ask about benefits, and how long they take to kick in…ask via email and specify 1) insurance 2) maternity 3) 401k Match/vesting

As long as you’re in the US and this is with a large firm or company, it would be illegal not to offer you a job after you have informed them you’re pregnant. It will immediately go to GCO. So technically, you’ll be upping your chances.

Separately, you may also want to mention it to use it in negotiating your leave as most places will not offer you one unless you’ve been with them for a year (beyond FMLA of course).

Congrats and good luck!

like

Most large organizations will never take that risk.

No

There’s some misinformation on here. It’s not illegal to ask someone if they’re pregnant, it’s illegal to make hiring decisions based on it thus why employers don’t ask. And it’s definitely NOT illegal to not hire a pregnant person so do not use that as leverage to get the job.

I would not disclose before the offer. Wait and then ask about the maternity benefits along with your other questions and how leave would work if you haven’t worked there long enough to qualify for FMLA.

So I posted a bit ago about getting IV hydration and vitamins. You guys gave me the courage to try it. After I had it done, I didn't feel much of a difference and figured I just spent a bunch of $ to relax for an hour in a massage chair. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But this has been the best week I've had energy-wise in the last seven months. And I kind of wish I could post before/after pics because apparently I was very bloated. I've been focusing on keeping up with my hydration at home. Thx ladies!
