D1 - Yes outcome would be the same. Pence was in cahoots with Trump and represented Trump brand. He also led COVID19 efforts and failed miserably at it. Those on the fence can see that incompetence. Just because Nero felt ill does not exonerate his crew which includes Momma' Mike.
In any case, I will let Republican minds ponder over this for next 2 decades.

To be clear - I am super happy Trump lost. I've been a Democrat for years.
But Republicans ran a historically unpopular candidate. There were a lot of Republicans and people in the 'center' I am sure, who just couldn't bring themselves to vote for Trump again. If Pence was at the top of the ballot, the right wing infosphere doesn't change. I am confident they would have rallied behind him.
It just so happened that Trump caught COVID after an effective treatment was available. If he had caught it in March, who knows what his treatment/recovery would have looked like?

A weird counterfactual to imagine:
Imagine if Trump was laid low with COVID and physically incapable of continuing to be President. He steps down, Pence becomes president (pardons Trump and his family for everything, of course), and now it is Biden vs Pence.
I genuinely wonder if the election turns out the same.
