Should we strike like AT&T until we get a union? Not sure why we don’t have one considering we work 1.3 times the normal person.

I don’t want to pay a union to make it easier for lazy people to get away with it. This is a competitive industry, most of us are here because we strive on that competition.

Didn't we just do a post on unions? Thought the overwhelming consensus was that most of us are against unionizing.

So I should pay dues, subsidize loafers, and give up my agency to freely negotiate? Got it!

Freely negotiate what.

Your average accountant will never strike. Why? Stockholm Syndrome/Coolaid/too scared.

Because it would never matter. Public accounting will always haven unlimited options for recruiting due to their investments in public universities

No. Sure at the staff 1 level this is true. Not at the qualified senior level, let alone manager and above.

I just want to add one thing, all trade unions have open enrollment for apprenticeship periodically. What is stopping any of you from applying to a union? Also, if you are not sure when they hold applications, you can figure it out with a quick google search and you phone call to your local. I am 100% for unions, but I don’t think they will solve the issues of this job given the competitive nature it takes to be successful.

It would be interested to see what part of the country everyone is from as they respond. I’m from the South and unions are not strong here. We have right to work laws which prohibit closed shops.

I’m from the south and one of my parents works for the international union and helps negotiate contracts all over the south. You’d be amazed at how beneficial unions are in contract negotiations with big business and low wage workers. With that being said, generally lower wage workers. Not sure that’s really gonna help much in PA. So many other options to work elsewhere and at least most firms have initiatives to improve employee value, even if they aren’t super successful all the time.. we’re lucky we at least have that.
