Should you put in your two week notice when you receive/sign an offer or should you wait for the background check to clear?

Wait for background check to clear

Wait to clear, especially if you know there may be something to be dug up

Wait to clear your background check.

How long on average does it take to clear?

I made the mistake to inform my current firm about an opportunity to counter before the background check with the new firm started. Since it’ll take time until it clears (I’m in the process) I will need to respond to their counter offer before the clearance comes back. My records are clean but I still regret that I informed my current employer about the offer before the background check comes back clear. My idea was to give them a chance to counter before accepting the offer but the timing is just not working out. FYI my notice is 2 M as I am based in Europe. In hindsight I would have waited. On the other hand, I will have more vacation. The downside is that I am carrying a risk and it’s certainly uncomfortable.

Bottomline: wait especially since your notice is only 2 weeks.

Thanks all!

Can’t decide on a job offer. Currently employed and have been wanting to do something different. The other job offer is pretty much what I make now but I’d be losing on a lot of PTO. I kind of feel really confused about what to do. The hiring manager actually picked up on the fact that I don’t sound super excited for the job. But I feel like this is my chance to leave and do something different but I’m hung up on barely any PTO and swapping to a complete different industry.

16 weeks and so worried all of the stress I’m under is going to hurt the baby. Between work, my own scary (non-pregnancy) health stuff, the pandemic, my mom (who is a widow and lives alone, basically isolated by choice due to covid) is having health issues, and pressures to keep billable hours up, I’ve been having complete breakdowns. Today I spent almost the entire day crying and now have to make up the billable time this weekend. I really worry abt what effect this will have on the babe.
