Should you stay in a position that has very limited promotion opportunities because of its org structure? We have a relatively small team of various bands of staff level who report to a Director who has no intentions of adding additional mgt layers (understandably). There is apparently growth opportunities on a IC track, but those don’t seem to be granted as often as management promotions. If I want to grow into a more strategic role overall, what other options should I look into/discuss?

I face this same issue in my current role. I’m choosing to look elsewhere to at least give myself the opportunity to have different options for advancement. Super personal decision though so I feel that it is a decision that you and you alone should make.

Hi Fishes,
I'm currently working for a fintech firm as SQL Developer which has got me into a toxic working culture(zero support from colleges) with no learnings so far.

Although, I'm from a Commerce domain..I wanted to move into Data Analytics so I learned SQL and Tableau on my own to get myself better Data Analytic job opportunities to build my career in.

However, without any live projects and hands on experience on the tool, I could only learn a few things about these two mentioned tools. So

At 24 years old, it was a great early experience, I learned a lot, and we have a lot to be proud of, but I'm still reflecting on why we fell short, and deciding how I want to move forward.

I am constantly second guessing myself and I feel like other attorneys at my firm look at me like I’m a moron. I.e. Need some advice as I already have an offer from EY but my other interviews are not over yet. I have ongoing interviews with Microsoft, Twilio and Revolut. They are trying to fasten up the process but I believe it might take another 7-10 days time.

On the other hand, HR in EY is asking to make a decision urgently, which is understandable as they have already waited for 3 days now.

Any suggestions?

Some Business Intelligence/Analyst roles are very data heavy. I wonder why these roles do not have the term “data” in them, and wonder if it’s to keep the salary lower than it should be. As someone commonly involved in first round interviews, here's some hopefully helpful advice around the 'Experience' section of your CV:

- Gaps in employment are important and are usually always discussed during interview
- Short spells with a past employer will be followed up on if not discussed during interview
- Soft skills are just as admirable as the usual hard/tech skills listed in your past employment
- A naturally driven and competent candidate could outshine their lack of experience
