Should you tell potential employers that you've been laid off? Does saying you've been laid off have a negative connotation to it?

Lol.. if the person was laid off from EY they will know it was because of vision 2020.. lol

like

Sorry. Just realized that was kind of shitty to say 😕

Fuck EY

God, you really can't get through a single post without some kind of typo? I can't take you seriously whenever I see your name because you always fuck up.

like

No. Laid off is different than fired.

I say my previous firm was downsizing. No need to mention lay offs.

Some under performers were cut no doubt.. but most of the layoffs were due to vision 2020

like

Agreed. All depends on why though. Even if you've been laid off, the question might be why you were laid off and not others. How did they decide who got laid off? Was it the lowest performers?

Haha ^

Ummmm don't tell them. The people that were laid off were the bottom of the pack in their market.

Not in all cases, i know for sure that in certain cases its purely how much money you are making compared to what a new person makes. Aka if you are a staff 1 and making 10k+ more than a staff 1 and head count needs cut, guess who gets cut?

I know a guy who transferred from tax to audit so was getting paid like a second year with first year experience and got laid off

*the

Nah. I just know who was laid off and why.

Maybe you know for your office but not everyone.

What is Vision 2020?

An extremely lofty goal EY set which is supposed to be reached by 2020. It is very aggressive and honestly I think it was designed based on how they thought the economy would fare overall, and not just the firm.

To be at the top of the market and bring in 50bil in revenue

Ey4...no fuck you!!!

I have a 25K loan from my MBA. I paid off 100k whole, after graduation. 3 years ago, I moved my loan from federal to private ( SOFI) account. I recently lost my job. I have applied for unemployment, as the severance that I received will only cover for 2 months. Together my husband and I used to make less than 250k after tax. Now, with a loss of pay , we are going to make less. Do you think I will be eligible for Loan forgiveness?

I got hit with a Covid layoff. How discriminating should I be about my next step? I've got about a decade of experience in big law, general commercial lit. I've wanted to go in house for a few years, but positions for pure litigators are few and far between. I'm applying for in-house and firm positions, and also a few firm administrative roles that I don't want to do. Should I just take anything I can get? I'm ok on savings, just worried about long term career impact.

Currently in a full time role at an RPO but have a potential offer in house on a 6-9 month contract with strong possibility of conversion at Hubspot. Pay is $15k higher than I make now. Would it be a bad decision to take the contract / contract to hire? I don’t doubt my ability to get converted, but the entire market is seeing huge layoffs so it makes me a little nervous. Thoughts?

Hello Everyone,

My brother is looking for a job. He previously worked at Amazon as TRMS . They were not on roll so got laid off last month.

Any leads will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance

I’ve been on the bench with J1 for about 3 months. I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. I’ve kept J1 because I’m still on the bench doing absolutely nothing and getting paid. Thinking about looking for a role on a project with J1 that’s not along my career path but will allow for me to do work with no calls so that I can manage both jobs. Does anyone have experience or advice?

I am recently received an invite for a meeting with a partner and a HR person which means I am either going to be laidoff or put on a reduced schedule (60% time for 60% pay). I would rather being laidoff since I don’t want to still work 100% with 60% pay. How would I frame it if they put me on the reduced schedule? I don’t want to say “you have to fire me” since it might be counted as resignation and I won’t receive the severance package.

Everyone else seems to be finding jobs so quickly after being laid off… I’ve been searching for 5 months and keep hitting walls. I’m tired. Depressed. Angry. Sad. I had to start therapy again because it’s all too much and is affecting my ability to function day-to-day. I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel anymore. How are people able to do this?

Had my performance review August 3rd. My boss could tell I was upset about a messily 5% raise after getting my degree etc. (recent post). He asked what range I’d like to be in, and I responded in a fashionable matter by comparing median salaries in the area. He said he would try and get me in that range. But has taken over a month to “think” about it. There shouldn’t really be much to think about? Either he wants me or he doesn’t, right? At this point I’m losing money and and motivation.

i also don’t like the permanently remote nature of the job (wasn’t remote when i joined), and feel like im getting pigeon-held into low value work (compliance, provision, fixed assets etc.)
