Shoutout to good assistants! My assistant was let go recently due to a combination of COVID and performance issues so I was assigned someone new, and the difference has been night and day. I know I’m still the one in charge of the file so I still review, but being able to trust her to be on top of things and not having to revise everything she does is amazing. She also revamped my diary system in the first week. Everything is so much more efficient!!

I’m beyond jealous. My assistant is a lovely person but I honestly have little trust in her for anything complex. I need support and I feel like I can’t rely on her 100%.

This seems to be pretty common! My old assistant was a weird combination of very sweet, very motherly vibes, but would get VERY defensive when she did things wrong (which was often) so I just ended up doing things myself to save the time and mental energy (or bothering other assistants, which isn’t fair to them). I 100% know the feeling of needing support and not having it!

A2, that is an unfortunate situation... but glad you adore her?

Has anyone else had a really hard time online dating with Covid? I’m aware things are getting better but I prefer to do outdoor first dates to be on the safe side. No judgement to anyone that does differently. It’s just what I feel comfortable with. I’ve had a few guys tell me they won’t do outdoor dates for some reason… some have cited weather but others legit say no (in 70 weather) because it’s a hassle & “Covid is a joke.” Please tell me if this is normal.

Hey Everyone!
I’m coming up on one year of working in consulting post under grad in a financial services vertical. I know I want to transition to corporate strategy down the road, but don’t have much interest in financial service strategy. My firm has a collections budget (80% of your billable rate x 1850 hours) and an hourly budget that must be met in order to be eligible for a bonus. The firm cares very little about originations and will reward someone for making their collections over someone who brings in new work. I missed my collection budget due to some odd timing with a client, but originated more than all my peers so no bonus for me. I’ve been at this same mid level firm for 9 years and it’s all I know. Plaintiffs counsel took my clients deposition today. He mentioned that he would likely be ordering the transcripts and I suggested we split the cost of them (in front of court reporter). He got pretty defensive and said absolutely not, it’s unfair to the court reporter, and that it is frowned upon in the industry to do that. Each party orders (and pays for) their own copy.
