Signs I’ve been working too hard: I saw a vanity license plate today “K8S MOM” and the first thing I thought was “Kubernetes has a Mother?”

Hahaha. I had to re-read this like 3 times because I was like, wait what else could it mean?

Hahaha same! 😂🤓

I mean honestly could be a nerdy tech mom who chose that as a custom license plate, I see that kind of stuff all the time in LA.

Its way cooler to be kubernetes mom

Hi, Consulting Moms! I need advice - I am leaving industry to return to consulting. I have offers from KPMG and Deloitte, and we are looking to start a family ASAP (we have been actively trying and I have a feeling it would be just my luck to start a new job and find out I’m pregnant). Would love your insight around personal experience with hours per week, work-life balance, culture, etc. Offers are same level/role/scope (Change Management / Transformation / Human Capital) and same salary. TY!

Is it mandatory to name the child at time of birth at hospital or can we name them later. Thanks

My wife and I just had our first child and as she was waiting to be vaccinated (we went for her first shot on the way home from the hospital), we told both sets of parents to wait 3 weeks before flying to come see us. Understand that’s upsetting but her parents couldn’t handle it to the point that they stopped talking to her for three weeks half way through the pregnancy and then after saying they understood, flew to her sisters place (2 hrs from us) without telling us then called after..cont’d

Seeing the “3% pledge for pay equity” popping up next to agency names here. Interesting that our Global CEO is a woman and don’t see us on that list. We also have the worst parental leave. 🤔

Venting: My vaccinated colleague has been sick for over a week. I asked him if he got tested, multiple times. “No it doesn’t matter, it’s just bronchitis”. This morning I got a text that his girlfriend’s severely autistic son died last night. The son has been sick “with the same flu bug”, and it appears he had a heart attack at age 26. His girlfriend (the boys mother, who I think is an anti vaxxer) has been sick. And the boys father too. None of them got tested.

I really want to try for baby no. 2 soon but now if I would start it would put me in my busiest month of January when the baby would be due. I already went down in hours this past year because of the pandemic and my Team had to pick up the slack. I also was told yesterday that the team struggled when I went down in hours. I really want to start trying because I want my kids closer in age. My daughter turns 2 in July so I would like to start soon so they are 2.5-3 years apart. I don’t know

I’m wondering from those who have moved from account to strategy how you’ve liked it and what were your motivations, pros and cons of the jump and what you think about the trajectory of your career and salary now. The head of strategy at my agency recently said I could be on her team and I’m extremely intrigued but surprised as I just always thought I’d be on the account side since I do so well there.

Got a verbal offer for a job that I want. The offer is pretty good too, more in line with the work I want to do, 40% raise in base salary, and other benefits are roughly the same. Waiting on the official offer, to come on Monday. The problem is, Stockholm syndrome is real, I keep feeling bad for leaving my team as busy season is kicking off. What are ways to deal with this “guilt”?

For those of you who had to deal with a salary decrease as a result of Covid, how quickly was it reinstated? Did it make you want to leave the firm? Are you concerned it will happen again with the uncertain economy?

Is it expected that people who exit from MBB/Deloitte at post mba levels (PL/EM/M) take paycuts when going to industry? (non FAANG, PE). I'm In process at multiple internal consulting/strategy groups who say the paycut is part of the trade-off for less hours/no travel. But as a female🐠, I can't discern whether this is just a negotiation tactic. Mentors have told me never take less pay. For reference, this is at a comparable industry equivalent level (not clear up/down)

Thinking about exiting consulting with 2YOE and would love to get perspective on what people felt like was the most important aspects to optimize for early in their career/life that has set them up for success in the long term - e.g. good manager, learning opportunities, level of ownership/responsibility, comp, or even better WLB to figure out their interests
