Similar to GlassDoor, I applied to a job that was posted.

They then responded and asked me to apply for the position online. As I am going through their process of uploading my resume and cover letter, they are also asking me for the SSN.

The website is a legit .org website, but I have come across other companies that inquire about the same thing.

What is your take on this and why do they require this upfront?

They shouldn't, because they don't need it until/unless they make an offer and you accept it. They need the SSN to check your background.

Check out the company. It makes no sense that they require you to apply on their website after you've applied to their ad. They should be able to get your first application into their system, unless they're a really small non-profit without much technology.

That doesn't seem right, i wouldn't give them that until you have the job

But what's the need of wanting this much of private and confidential documents even before the interview

2. How do you collect it? Venmo? Credit card?
3. Do you have to register your business?

Thank you in advance for any guidance.

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.
