My guess is that the “full” rates under the firm plans cost the same, if not less than, the unsubsidized ACA premiums for much better coverage. Ultimately, the makeup of the pool of those insured by a particular plan drives the premiums. Public accounting pool: tons of young college grads. ACA pool: much more diverse and older, and likely to have more health problems.

Partners, at least PwC partners, do not get subsidized coverage from their firms. The partners are the firms and we pay the full freight on the premiums. What we get is buying power, thus perhaps lower premiums, due to our volume.

Or maybe the US needs a single payer system (like Canada, Taiwan, South Korea)

Not right now but yes most Americans buy new cars every 6 years so 16% of cars on the road right now are new. The point is you paid a lot of money for a new car at some point.

I honestly am not too worried about how much they are paying for their health insurance. They should be able to afford the unsubsidized amount from their firm without much hardship. I would imagine some go other routes like the ACA marketplace but assume most have it through their firm or a spouse, if the spouse works and has a better plan.

From what I’ve heard, this is one of the reasons some partners do adjunct work at universities. Gets your name out in the community, plus subsidized healthcare for the family.

They should just do what the rest of us commoners do- get a second mortgage on their fourth vacation house and pay out of pocket. Or send junior to the 30K per year private school instead of the 50K one.

EY6 - no per kid cost. It is a family plan.

Employees pay maybe 10%-15% of premiums . Employers pay rest. Partners pay full boat so likely 8-10X in premiums compared to employees

like

EY 3 you are not paying 10-15 percent of the premiums.

Several partners of mine purchased health insurance on their own versus the plans offered through the firm. I did not think the numbers were that much better, but they were able to tailor it a bit more.

I wonder if they go on their spouse’s employer’s policies?

Interesting. I do know a partner whose husband retired so that does make sense.

What do you mean?

I pay 1800 a month for a family plan on UHC. Did not shop around.

It's better than the Ameriben crap EY threw on us (using BCBS network but with a third party processor).

They all just use Medicare actually

Isn’t mandatory retirement age before 65?
